Hi all,
Please, is there a plug-in (maybe from Main Concept ?) that would allow IMPORTING AC3 files into PP ?
I'm aware about the MainConcept MPEG2 plug-in, but as far as I know it doesn't allow IMPORTING AC3 files, which is rather annoying cause most of the MPEG2 files I need to edit have muxed AC3 audio....
I'm willing to cut-trim-paste MPEG2 files, with 2 audio AC3 streams, without reencoding....
I know about the AC3 plug-in that allows EXPORTING the LPCM native audio stream on this format (AC3 encoder), but that's not what I need,
Thanks so much,
Zetti

Try the AC3 ACM Decompressor - I have it installed and found that I can use AC3 audio on the timeline in Premeiere Pro 1.5. I don't know if it's a result of having that installed, but it's worth a try...
Failing that - there's also AC3 Filter and maybe even ffdshow.
Good luck...

Nice, thanks, but as far as I understood, you can work with the "AC3" file in PP cause these sw's converts it to PCM.....
I'm willing for native AC3 editing, like Womble does,
Thanks,
Zetti

Hi !
I've had the same annoying problem...
Finally found a strange way to do it !
Encore CS3 is now able to import AC3 files...
This is due to a particular DLL : ad2ac3dec.dll (found in EncoreCS3 folder)
Just copying it in the Premiere CS3 folder (root) now simply allow AC3 import !!!!!!!!!
Enjoy !!! Real cool !!!

Just gave an answer to the Topic...
"Import AC3 into Premiere Pro"
This trick allow to edit "HDD Cam movies" directly without demux / reencode or another boring/unusefull stuff...
I was just happy to find an answer that appears to have no one !

maunakea, that worked beautifully! Thanks so much for posting that fix.
edDV, it's not about ripping DVDs. I have a DVD-ready MPEG where the DV source was already tossed from the hard drive (would have to re-capture from tape). Or demux that MPEG-2 and convert the audio to WAV. Not to complain, but at the price Premiere Pro CS3 cost, it sure as hell better import professional audio formats.

Hi maunakea,
Thanks for this tip - but - I just tried it and Prem Pro CS3 will still not let me import an .ac3 file - even after a restart.
Has anyone else tried and found this a problem? Did you find a solution?
TIA

st ivo - it doesn't seem like you can import an ac-3 audio only file, but if it's part of a muxed mpeg-2, ac3 2ch and 5.1ch import fine.

I use a simple, somewhat roundabout message for pulling AC3 files into Premiere. You must have any version of Adobe Audition on your machine, and it only works in the following way, so if you choose not to follow these steps, don't complain to me that it didn't work.
Open Adobe Audition
Select View, then Multitrack View (if you overlook this step, you will not be able to import the AC3 file)
Next, select File, Import, and find the AC3 file on your hard drive
Select Open (the audio will then be extracted)
Now in the file window in Adobe Audition, double click on the imported AC3 file
Your audio file wave form will appear on the screen
Select File, Save As, and in the box that appears, choose MP3 in the "Save as type" box
Now I have an .MP3 version of the AC3 file which can be easily imported into Premiere and placed on the timeline.
Good luck!

When this is done, will it allow normal audio editing with the AC3 imported audio such as level changes on Premiere's timeline?
