How many films have you liked enough to keep?, I know I couldn't resist the idea of watching them just once, so I downloaded my favorites.
So, how many have you downloaded, uh?

All of them as soon as they were available. A lot of talent there. A very good representation of different styles and ideas. I've watched all of them at least twice.

Every single one. And converted and authored to DVD, so I could repeatedly watch them on TV. I'm surprised how much I got into it. Tried to get my wife to look at some. It went something like this:
Me: Hey! Look at that effect! I know how he did that one.
My Wife: Maybe you should have entered the contest.
Me: Hmmm. Ooh, you gotta see the next one! Too Cool!
My Wife: [Yawn] I'm going upstairs and watch TV there.
Me: Grrr.

Downloaded all of them, watched them, then deleted all except one. I'm thinking of adding it as an easter egg on a few of my next dvds.

If VH can't do it, hopefully the authors will make high quality versions of their material available. It's not beyond the impossible that we could scare up a DVD if enough people are interested. Who knows? VH does not have the bandwidth to spare at the moment.

I'd be happy to make a copy of my submission, "Baldrick - City of Tomorrow" available in mpeg-2 "DVD" form, ready to go as part of a disc that contains all the submissions. Also my "master" was 720x480/mpg2 and while the copy here is not at all bad, my original has a much clearer soundtrack (you can actually hear the background music when you're supposed to!). So I'm totally cool with sharing this if anybody is actually interested.
I'm guessing that others feel the same about their own films and that leads us to -- how the heck do we all get together and 1) make a DVD of sorts that contains all these, and 2) how to we then share that in an easy, cheap way? Bit torrent, perhaps? Dunno.
Well, for starters, how much actual interest is there in doing something like this? Should we make a poll?

I would love to have all the movies in one dvd.
E-Mule could be a nice option too. Put the file(s) in your hard drive, and let the people download them!.

Even unmixed, PAL DVD is difficult to deal with for North Americans.

I'll volunteer to author NTSC and PAL DVDs of the movies with menus and smooooth conversion where needed ... and then seed torrents of them as well. Then everyone can hear the Wasp surround track we're all dying to hear ...

that's a pretty good idea by mr. moody..
have someone put together a dvd with the high quality sources of all the movies and then make a torrent..
we could actually make examples of legal dvd-r movie torrents!

I'm in, if you want my (as a noted professional noted and I'll quote) "underappreciated" movie "Baldrick - City Of Tomorrow" in the collection! I've got it on disc, or if you wanna try a Godzilla-sized FTP transfer we could go that route; send me a private note and we can hook up.
But it's probably worth noting that the rights to each film are retained by each film's maker, aside from some limited rights granted to videohelp.com for some versions and some sharing as they see fit ... so some contributors may care about DVD distribution. So you should check with each person and make sure they're all cool with it. Also I would hope that they would also be able to provide you with a higher-quality copy of their work, which would make this really worth seeking out and trading/sharing.

Yes, each entrant retains full copyright of their film except for the limited right for VideoHelp to distribute for the purposes of the competition. I cannot condone members creating public distribution copies without the consent of the entrant.
I will consider with the other mods of perhaps making a DVD from the better quality source files we received for the purposes of promoting the next incarnation of this comp.
Regards.

That was never my intention. In fact the opposite: I would get the movies from the entrants directly; some have already stated they have higher quality sources than what was submitted.

I'm still in!!! Also frankly I would prefer that if a DVD were released by anybody that it would not contain a copy of my contest submission, as that (divx) encoding did not come out to the best of my own satisfaction. I mean the master divx I submitted to the contest has sound and video issues that I never could get to encode properly, versus my mpg-2 master has much better sound in particular.

Ditto.
I would be willing to have mine included, but it should be clear that it is a "not for profit" endeavor, however if Baldrick wanted to use it as part of a fund raiser DVD to raise money for the site or future contest, I would have no problem with that.
Edit: Or to entice contest sponsors to donate either money, video equipment, or software as prizes.

Yes. Someone should author a DVD (but true dvd res, not some divx encodes to dvd please!) and make it available at cost+shipping.
I'd buy it.
And if no one wants to do it - let me know.
Im usually busy looking for *anything to do* at my work most of the time anyway

When it comes to keeping films, I just look towards keeping ones where they have a profound impact on me enough that I'll watch it again. I use to be those guys that kept everyone of them but it just took up too much space and considering I don't have a lot of gigs then egh. I just buy movies off of amazon now and add it to my dvd collection =)
