Basic question here: how do you edit an IFO file to change the subtitle's color? I used IfoEdit but it said I need to select "PGC in IfoEdit's Treeview" -- where's this treeview?

The upper panel. I do not remember the exact name of the line, but I think it ends with _PGCITI. Clicking on it will display the tree (  ) of available PGC's. So you choose a PGC from which you copy the colors. The same is to paste - you need to choose a PGC.

thanks. I'm slowly getting it. I expected to see a color wheel or something to pick a color from, but turns out it's just a bunch of hex values. I just used these settings from a thread I found:
Color 0 Y Cr CB 16 128 128 [10 80 80 ]
Color 1 Y Cr CB 32 128 128 [20 80 80 ]
Color 2 Y Cr CB 128 128 128 [80 80 80 ]
Color 3 Y Cr CB 235 128 128 [eb 80 80 ]
The end result is good, plain white subtitles.

Open the DVD in PGCEdit. Double-click on the movie. In that new screen you'll see, among other things, the CLUT (Color Look Up Table) of 16 different colored squares. Click on the one that has the current subtitles color and change it to whatever you want. OK your way out of there, save, and test.

Personally, I find YELLOW much more legible on top of most movies.

Hehe, I almost said something too, but he wasn't asking advice about the proper color to choose. Me, unless it's anime when I might also go for a light yellow, give me a nice grey color every time.
White? Yech!
