Not sure where to post this so I'm posting it here...

HDTV2DVD

http://www.svcd2dvd.com/HDTV2DVD

HDTV2DVD is a new freeware program to create DVDs from HDTV material (*.ts or *.tp HDTV MPEG-2 Transport Streams).

Note: this is a .Net application so you need .Net framework 1.1 in order for this to work.

Thanks to Robert Simandl for testing and suggestions.

Usage:

Demo Movie

Notes:

I have only recently looked into HDTV and my knowledge is more aligned to DVD and mpeg2 program streams - so I might be a way off the mark with this first pass.

The default video bitrate that the DVD mpegs are encoded to is 7800 kbs. If the duration of the asset is such that it takes the output over dvd-5 (or 9), then clicking autofit reduces this bitrate accordingly.

There is no IVTC being performed on this release, although I will be adding it. However the results still look good to me (bare in mind that I have never seen HDTV material on a HDTV!)

This software is a _very_ cut down version of SVCD2DVD (which does the same but does avi/mpeg and also has menus, subtitles, burning etc), however I wish to release this to make an easy method for those who want to convert HDTV to DVD quickly, with minimal fuss. Please bare this in mind: it will never be the perfect solution for the purist but hopefully won’t be far off! Yet it will allow many more people to put HDTV material onto DVDR.

Also:

If you have a ts set which is split like:

Code:
movie.part0001.ts
movie.part0002.ts
movie.part0003.ts

movie.part0101.ts

Then open a command prompt and change to the directory containing those files. Then do:

Copy /B *.ts movies.ts

This will join up your split files and give you a big file to use with HDTV2DVD.

If you need to edit your .ts file then use the latest version of VideoReDo (2.1.1.413) as this outputs to Transport Streams (*.ts) files. Make sure you have the following set:

Further updates to follow.

Hey Chris, am I missing something? All I can find on your web site is version .2 still?

BTW, I have version .2 doing this week's episode of Prison Break as I type this. Doing the manual IVTC of that episode with TMPGEnc turned into such a nightmare I said the h*ll with it. Glad I had your new program to fall back to!

Thanks,

Sorry about that. The download was updated but the link still said 0.2. I have updated it now.

Is the program working well for you?

What MPEG2 (re)compression program does this use? CCE, TMPGEnc, etc? How is the quality?

Thanks,
Robert

It uses ffmpeg with optimised parameters and matrices. Same encoder as QuEnc etc. Check out the quality with a small duration sample.

It does if the tp files are transport streams.

You can send me a small sample of a file that doesn't load for me to take a look at if you want.

I appreciate the offer, but i'm new to the hdtv thing, so i'm not even sure of how to make a small clip of the .tp stream. The .tp plays fine, so i 'assumed' it was ok.

CB,
This is incredible. Thank you so much. I am very green at this decoding/encoding process. I know that a true HD stream is 1088 lines; however, I am unsure how to get rid of the extra 8 lines so the file will work with HDTV2DVD. At least I think that is what the problem is. It has worked on a 720, but my 1088 didn't work. Do you have any suggestions? Your help is greatly appreciated.

This is the error I get when the 1088 files starts.

Can you email me your log file? There should be a log file in the "logs" folder under where you installed the program.

Hi,

I use linux, and am having issues with converting a hdtv stream I recorded to dvd mpeg. I tried your program on my work machine, and it seemed to do a decent job. could you share the default ffmpeg command HDTV2DVD is using?

I see your program is written with .NET, maybe you could make it work under mono, and be cross platform with Linux and Mac OSX?

winman42: The file has some incorrect flags set. If you run it through VideoReDo's "QuickStream Fix" it will sort it out in a matter of seconds:

Make sure you use the latest version:

tsizlo: The same may well apply to your file too.

Just a thought: Did you ensure that the output file was saved as a Transport Stream not the default Program Stream?

I had the same issues, new file will not load as well, but it looks like i dont have the latest version of Video Redo, so perhaps thats the issue. I'm using version 2.1.0.401

Grab the latest as Transport stream output is a relatively new addition to the tool.

2.1.2.417 is the latest.

Make sure that you save as Transport Stream:

And that you "Omit nulls" in the options:

Thank you for your reply,
I downloaded the free version last night. Not sure if it is the latest. I don't recall seeing an option to save as a transport stream. The original was a transport stream. I will check version number and other options when I get back to my other computer.

I will also send a 5MB clip. I do notice that all the OTA programs I record on NBC (in the USA) have 2 sets of audio as well as being 1088. The second has 0 bytes at 0 bytes/sec. Fox (720) and CBS (1080) OTA programs work fine on your wonderful tool, HDTV2DVD.

Thanks again,

Tom

ok. Keep us posted (the fist image in the above post is from the QuickStream Fix dialog box. MPEG PS is the default).

I would certainly like to see the NBC sample to see if the audio is problematic.
