hi!
I had the exact same problem a few days ago. Turns out, I hadn't configured ac3 correctly, but had never noticed because I play my files on vlc. When I started to actually do some work, the misconfigured codec gave me that problem. SW was working well, but I couldn't hear the audio because ac3 had the volume too low and/or wasn't specifically configured as the default decompressor. Once I reconfigured and restarted SW, it worked a wonder.
I read about others with this problem, and often they've had SW trying to play the audio with ffdshow or some other compatible method. They solved by either configuring ffdshow to not play ac3, or uninstalling ffdshow altogether.
That being said, it was working a wonder for a few days until right this moment (found this post while searching for a solution). suddenly, out of the blue, I'm out of sound again:? ...while working on the same file!
are there any other ideas out there?
[EDIT] Sorry! my bad! It wasn't the same file... I misnamed my files, and I was trying to have SW play sound on a soundless avi....
