Anyone know of a program or programs that I can use to take an mpeg that has ac-3 audio and extract to wav.
I downloaded 1 or 2 programs that only except vob files.

The first thing you need to do is demux the MPEG to separate M2V and AC3 files. (this can be done with TMPGEnc - MPEG Tools)

Then you need to load the AC3 file into an audio converter (try the ones suggested or BeSweet) and convert to WAV file. Rememeber, if using the file for CD preparation, you will need to convert the sample rate to 44.1kHz.

I found a cool little command line program that converts AC3 to wav called AC3decode821. It's free.

is it just me or does the BeSweet/AC3decode821 method of folding back a 5.1 mix-->stereo not work properly? it's driving me nuts

and why cant goldwave open an AC3 file on its own? does it have to be attached to a film?
