I've taken some film footage.
I used a professional camcorder with a professional boom mic.
Unfortunately, the sound on the video has come out very low. sad.gif

I've tried some simple video editing software (Ulead) to increase the sound.
Unfortunately, this results in a lot of hissing and other background sounds.
I've borrowed someone elses PC and have Adobe Premiere and Audition at my disposal.
(I've never used either software before.)

Can someone tell me how I can fix the sound and not have the hissing and noisy background?

Thanks.

You can try using some of the filters in Audition, such as HISS REMOVAL, or general NOISE REMOVAL after you amplify the audio, but generally, you are starting with a low SIGNAL to NOISE ratio source, so your results may not be that good.

More the reason to perform a sound check before you begin recording (remember this next time!).

I've used these filters on captured vinyl recordings to remove the pops and clicks, plus the low level hiss and the results have been quite impressive - but my S/N ratio was probably a lot higher than yours to begin with.

I use Cool Edit. Have for years. Easy to learn too.
Just open the audio file (after you exported from premiere or what else you may be using , make sure you are in waveform view and highlight the areas you want to add effect to and then choose an effect from effects on the menu.
Premiere Pro will export to a lot of formats.
