I am trying desperately to capture an online video from dailymotion for the past week.
Unfortunately it is labeled as a private video therefore it has no URL to use with keepvid or other downloading sites like that.
I have been trying to capture it with SnagIt but I only get a black screen and awful sound. I use VLC Player to view audio files.
Anyone has some advise or another program I should use?
Thanks guys!

Try with orbit downloader, don't know exact web page for download but you could find it with search engines.

This still saved as MS-DOS Application.com. while downloading.

When you're saving the file, choose "All Files" in the dropdown list for file type...do NOT leave it as "MS-DOS Application".

I tried viewing the file I downloaded with WMP and the video did appear but without sound. Any help guys?

You can also get the right-click menu by Command-clicking on the link.

Or, use a USB mouse with more than one button. smile.gif

Most of them are for Windows, though VLC and mplayer (both freeware) have OS X ports. The websites mentioned above that attempt to grab (some also convert) FLV/SWF videos from YouTube and other sites should also work on the Mac.

If you're looking for Mac-specific solutions/programs, it might be a good idea to look around in VideoHelp's Mac forum.

Is their a freeware way to capture off Fox on Demand Beta? http://www.fox.com/fod The site uses "Move Media Player" that must be installed in order to watch episodes. I've tried OrbitDownloader and DownloadHelper and neither work.

*EDIT* Well it looks like this has already been discussed. I get nothing but a ton of .qss files in this folder: ....Application Data\Move Networks\QMCache00 http://forum.videohelp.com/topic329156.html#1701733

Hey guys, I'm trying to convert some of my .flv files to .wmv with Replay Converter. Does anybody have any experience with this program? I went to their troubleshooting page but am still having issues. The original .flv file is fine. Any suggestions? Thanks! smile.gif

Maybe a different program?

I cant speak for the specific program you are using.. but i have had good results with "SUPER © - by eRightSoft". That seems to convert the flv into pretty much anything you need.

Check VideoHelp's Tools page for SUPER - it has a mirror link you can use to download SUPER, rather than spend time trying to uncover the download link(s) on the homepage. :/

I think WinFF might also work for converting FLVs, but I haven't tried it.

Squash's method on page 3 worked great for this cbsnews video.

I just played the video in firefox, found the file in the cache, added .swf extension and it played just fine in VLC!

I've tried a few different programs like rm recorder, snagit and orbit. I must be doing something wrong though as i just can't get the file. I'd appreciate and help. Thanks.

Hi there,

Use orbit and "enter new url to download", cut and paste this in
rtsp://od2.rte.ie:554/2008/0408/championsleague_post-177327-228.rm

(I needed WM recorder to "sniff" the proper address, but unfortunately WM recorder is not free)

Cheers

Thanks mate, appreciate you taking the time. I Wonder why it's such a big file for a 15minute video though?

Thanks again.

There is no easier way now than the new version of Real Player. When the video starts to play, place your cursor over the video and a drop down window will appear to give you the option of downloading.

It is 100% FREE.

this is not a reply but does anyone know how i can download a youtube video to MM. when i try and drag from desktop i get a message to download codec and retry. I tried severed download adapters but it still does not work. i have vista actual code is this:The file C:\Users\User\Desktop\YouTube - My Favorites.url cannot be imported because the codec required to play the file is not installed on your computer. If you have already tried to download and install the codec, close and restart Windows Movie Maker, and then try to import the file again.

I'm having trouble recording an audio ASF file; I keep getting little skips/gaps every second or so with no sound in them in the recorded file (if I don't record it, it sounds normal).

I've tried a number of programs: Orbit, VLC media player, and SDP Multimedia. All of them have the same problem, although SDP seems to sound a little different (the gaps are of shorter duration but are a bit more frequent).

This is the file that I'm trying to record. And this is what it sounds like when I try to record it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I opened the URL in WMP, used Audacity to record what the sound card was playing, then saved as MP3. The first minute:

That sounds wonderful. However, I can't seem to get Audacity to record anything but silence. I also tried another program called "Messer" and I also can't get it to work.

P.S. I just checked, and it looks like VLC player has those clips/silences while Mplayer does not. So theoretically it would also sound fine if I managed to figure out how to get Mplayer to record something. It doesn't have a simple graphical interface, though; apparently I have to use something called "command line switches" to get it to record something, which I have no idea how to use.

EDIT: Hold on, I'm going to try downloading SMPlayer and see if I can figure out how to record something...
EDIT2: Nope, I can't figure it out... noexpression.gif The option doesn't seem to be there. So I guess it's back to figuring out why Audacity records only silence, or going to Radioshack to buy a male-male audio plug to connect the computer's audio output to a recording device.

Audacity: Edit -> Preferences -> Audio IO -> Recording... try the different inputs.

If using Microsoft Sound Mapper you may have to adjust the system mixer via Control Panel -> Sounds and Audio Devices.

Ok. It only gives me 2 options: "Microsoft Sound Mapper - Input" and "SoundMAX Digital Audio". Neither seems to work.

What setting should the drop-down box on the main screen of Audacity be set to?
-CD Player
-Microphone
-Aux
-Line In
-Phone
-Mono Out
-Wave Out Mix

My Control Panel doesn't have a "Sounds and Audio Devices" (I use Windows 2000). It has "Sounds & Multimedia" and "SoundMAX". I can't find anything called a "system mixer" in either of them.
