This maybe the recorder itself or a media issue. I'm hoping to find out. I've noticed that some of my recordings I've done on DVD+RWs occasionally start getting a "jerky" motion while playing back. It looks as if it's being played frame by frame like an old silent movie but with sound. I've only noticed it on programs recorded off tv. I use a vcr in my front inputs in place of the built in tuner because I don't like the ilo tuner. The media I'm using is Memorex 4x dvd+rw. I like using the ilo in place of my vcr to record but it'd be great to resolve the unsmooth playback issue. Also, I've read somewhere where any media made in Taiwan is trash and all mine is made there. It's all I can find around here at Wal Mart.

I get that too on my ilo and liteon, you can even see it start to happen while its recording. I notice it happens primarily on SLP mode, is it like that with yours? I also use the memorex 4x dvd+rw

I had these recorded on ep mode but it also happens on slp mode like you mentioned. I want to use it like a vcr for recording tv shows and then erasing them. I'd like to record several programs at a time on one disk but this jerky video problem is the pits. I'm not sure if I noticed it in sp mode. I'll record a test program today and look and see. If it does then I'll just have to live with it I guess until/unless it can be remedied. At least it's still watchable but it's a bit of a let down since I wanted to completely end vcr recording forever.

Hmmmm...I'm copying an older vhs tape onto a Memorex dvd+rw right now as I write this and I'm noticing the jerky video movement. It comes and goes. I'm recording it in EP mode. I'm still curious to know if it's the media itself or the dvd recorder. At first I thought it was only happening when recording off the vcr tuner but now I see otherwise.

I bought some Sony DVD+RW discs that say MADE IN JAPAN on them from CompUSA.

Maybe you have a CompUSA near you that you can go check.

I don't have an ILO or LiteOn but I can verify that the SONY DVD+RW discs seem to work really well so if you get them and try them and still have problems then I think it would be safe to say it is not a media issue.

I'm curious if this turns up if you are using something else like a DVD+R disc instead of a DVD+RW disc?

Actually I have a dvdr04 and noticed the same thing with LP mode. I only use sp and hq now becuase I dont want to have bad recordings.

PS: try the new firmware and see if it makes things better.

Yes fulcilives, it does it as well on a dvd+r disk but the dvd+r disks I use are Maxell brand. I do notice that all disks I buy whether they're dvd+rw or dvd+r are all made in Taiwan. I've read where they're manufactured can make a difference no matter the brand name. I buy my media either at, Walmart, Circuit City or Best Buy. That's about the only choice close by. All the tapes and dvds I recorded in sp mode don't seem to have this problem so maybe I'll just stick to recording in that speed or hq mode. But I do record in timer mode a lot and put multiple programs on one dvd+rw. I guess if I want a smooth recording and playback on a multiple recording in a slower speed , I'll just have to depend on my vcr. I was hoping to only use it for the stereo tuner. mad.gif

Tuniing off auto-Chapter-marking helped.

What really fixed it for my liteon 5001 was removing just the 3 hour
record mode from the Firmware.

Note that only few people have this problem.

My iLo HDR04 has no problems.

I've read where people have had problems with the chapter marker being on. I'll just go ahead and turn it off too and see what happens. I don't have the 3 hr mode hack installed on mine. I do have the macro remover hack installed and it works perfectly. Someday soon I'm planning on buying a dvd recorder with a built in hard drive. I just haven't made up my mind which one to buy. I'm planning on spending 300.00 - 500.00 for one and I'm hoping it will be flawless.
