Morning folks,

Could somebody recommend a programme for creating DVD menus? to encode the any type media files, I use "dvd santa" but it doesn't allow me to create a DVD menu.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. (I usually have .avi files which I then encode with dvd santa, so if anyone has any other suggestions, feel free to tell me). Thanks.

Tmpgenc DVD Author has a strong following around here, as does DVD Lab and it's big brother, DVD Lab Pro. DVD Workshop 2 from Ulead is also favoured by some respected members who do this stuff for a living.

I guess you need to consider a couple of points before leaping in. What is your budget ? The software I have mentioned costs in the range of US$30 up to over US$200. They will create menus and author a final disk. DVD Menu Studio only creates menus (which does answer your immediate question).

I use Photoshop to create still menus and load them into DVD Lab Pro to author. I have a nice workflow built around this, including special phptoshop actions I have created to keep everything consistent. Most decent authoring tools will use phtoshop PSD files for this purpose.

How complex to you intend to become ? Simple still menus can be done in anything. Motion menus, complex transitions, coding of logic for games or complex menu features requires more complex authoring tools.
