Steve,

You can't buy a CPU and expect to overclock it to a certain amount. You just can't tell what's in that little box - a hot, unstable chip that might get an extra few MHz or the most insane overclocker ever seen.

Just making sure you know. smile.gif

Cobra,

I completely agree. I discovered this first hand with my XP2500. Although pretty much everything I've seen with the XP mobiles is that they OC very well.

What concerns me the most is why similar systems don't yield similar results. For example; I get 1:39 on my XP BARTON@2.1G/AN35N/512Mb system and Flaystus is getting 1:09 on a very similar system XP3000 BArton/AN35N/512Mb. Our ram timings are the same. If I dial my FSB up to 195, I can match his clock speed. With that my FSB is almost 30MHz higher, but his encode time is still approx 25 sec faster.

Here is another question reguarding these tests. Does anyone think that running SP2 vs SP1 helps with the times? That is the other difference between our systems.

Thanks,
Steve

it looks like something is sucking up your resources...i had the shuttle an35ultra in my tests and i was only running a 2800+...i'd say look for spyware/malware if you've closed everything that it's still doing those type of times. you saw my benchmark when i was running the system as normal while encoding....1:39

@glockjs,
I run Adaware and spybot regularly as well as I have AVS running all the time. I will run a test tonight shutting everything down and see if that make a difference.

moderators: I will take furhter discussion offline to another topic if you like.

Thanks

You're only a few seconds of my XP3800, glock. Nice going?

What FSB - Multi are you running on that thing?

I'm 255MHz x 9.5 = 2422MHz.

Well I think I fixed my computer problems. Reseated CPU/cleaned HSF. Then did a fresh install of XPPro/SP2. Backed off to 190x11 with 7-3-3-2 timing. End result was a 47sec time.

Hope this works.

My PC keeps giving me blue screen of death error, and hasn't been formatted for ages (it has alot of crap on it) so this might affect encoding time.

TMPGEnc gave me 1.05 results.

Im using my raptor for the tests.

I have not overclocked my PC in any way.

Added, thank you. Your marks are about what I'd expect from that system.

I still need to figure out a "performance quotient" for all these. I'm trying to utilize the PR clock rating and the encode time for the main "PQ" and then using different graph methods to incorporate overclocks and their worth to the chart. One of these days it'll just click, but with these results all over the place like they are.

Waheed - download this, make a floppy from it and test your RAM. That might be what is causing your blue screen.

http://www.memtest.org/download/1.55.1/memtest86+-1.55.1.floppy.zip

(http://www.memtest.org/ - Main page)

We have very similar systems - same CPU, Asus motherboard (although mine is a VIA chipset), Corsair RAM. Nice, isn't it? smile.gif

Hi guys, TGIF laugh.gif and good 4th to you all jumpy.gif

@ fatty4ksu

That one beats mine by 1 second, hehe.

Question:

Does cpu-z *show* ram chip speeds ??

When I purchased a 512mb ram chip (to replace my burnt 256mb chip)
the new chip (from staples) had stamped on it, 333Mhz.

@ cobra (or others) ..

* Regarding the link U posted above on memory test. Can it be run under
Windows ??

* Or, are there any (hopefuly, direct links to .zips) that anyone are aware
of that can be run inside windows ??

Thanks,
-vhelp 3414

No, MemTest really needs to be run of its own accord. If you were to test memory with the OS running it would interfere with whatever memory the OS or other applications are using. MemTest creates a boot floppy so just boot from it and run the full test at least once. You can stop it any time thereafter as it'll repeat the tests over and over until you stop it. It's a great way to stress test your memory too. I let it run for 24 hours and never got a single error, though I'm sure I worked the MCH and RAM heatsinks to their utmost.

I'd also like to see more about fatty4ksu's setup/result....gotta be an o/c'd result. (told a friend with an X2 4600+ about this thread, he'll test and post result sometime this weekend)
