Followed Cobra's guide and got the following:
TMPGenc version: 2.54.63.181

First Machine: P4 prescott 3.0 GHz
SATA 8mb cache HD

cryop4

Time:
1:05 with HT
1:08 without HT

Second Machine: A64 3200+ Winchester
SATA 8mb cache HD

cryoa64

Time: 1:07

Edited to link CPU-Z stuff and correct times. I disabled anti-virus and such for the tests, but basically let all the windows processes running.

Results seem inline for the A64, but a bit slow for the P4 when compared to some slower P4's overclocked to a similar speed.

Hi Cryolokk,

I noticed that was your first post. Welcome to VideoHelp! smile.gif

Did you follow the guide I produced? You'll find it right at the top (as a "sticky" post) in the Computer Forum, right next to this thread. That will help you post up your CPU-Z dump so we can accurately identify and compare your system.

Nice rigs, by the way. wink.gif

Viral1, are you using the mpeg1.mcf file? I just noticed looking at your
screenshot that you're doing MPEG-1 720x480 30fps CBR 1150kbps. I think
everyone else is doing VBR 7000kbps.

For some reason I can't upload images.

it helps if you name them correctly (the images) smile.gif - i fixed it for you ---bj_m

I like how SMP made no difference. Do people realize the application has to be SMP aware in order to utilize that second processor? n00bs, all of 'em laugh.gif

Added, thank you.

Mostly culling bases for a better bench right now but it helps me get bearings for what we should be looking for.

so call me bored. but i wanted to see what this benchmark looked like under "real world" circumstances....cause let's be honest. i know i dont shut down everything and stop using my computer when encoding.

so this is basically with my hdd stressed to the max with full bandwidth from my new friend napster. listening to music. and with all my normal apps up and then some......

I decided to test out my new system and was pleasantly surprised. I also found something that might account for the discrepencies in results. My encodetime is 1:07 if the save first pass to cache setting was unchecked, so people might want to check if that setting is checked or not when submitting results. This is with first pass caching enabled

Added, though it has shown me that the previous Winchester 3000 result in an overclocked system so I'll have to move that over to the OC results. Thanks!

Make sure you're letting us know in advance that your system is overclocked. With the new naming schema for processors I can't tell what OEM clocks are supposed to be.

below are the results for my notebook computer. its a mobile processor so it changes the clock depending on the load, so i imagine it was at full tilt while running this test.

I really like the P4-M and XP-Ms, they carry fantastic architecture. Every desktop processor should be able to clock down when not being utilized. Both are also great for thermal efficiency.

Laptop results added, thanks for adding the first mobile CPU results.

The Athlon64s can do that.

Could everyone pretty please use the HTML report function in CPU-Z as shown in my guide for uploading your machine statistics? It's getting to be a looooong thread! smile.gif

Thanks for your input, guys!

This didn't work for me. The file I downloaded freezes about half way through. Freezes when I play in in WMP and power DVD as well. While that did lead to great encode times, I just don't feel justified in posting my results... redface.gif
