Hey, My Ps2 plays backed up dvds and i do not have a mod chip installed. It was purchased new last christmas. Does anyone know why this is? Do you think it would play game copies?

Hi
Yes, they will play back-up dvd's even without a "modchip" & no, they won't play a backup game without a modchip, swap disc, older GS disc or some other mod. rolleyes.gif

Search is your friend smile.gif

We really gotta bold that section in the AUP that talks about doing a forum search and/or a web search before posting ...

I did search. And all i could find was stuff on backing up ps2 games, like how you cant use dvdshrink because you need to restructure it. Well thank you NOAHTUCK for helping me.

I would've thought that it was because DVDShrink is for DVD-Video, but anyway ...

I meant a google search too, not just a forums earch smile.gif

Achieved from a google search unsing the words
"how to backup ps2 games"
http://support.alcohol-soft.com/en/knowledgebase.php?postid=611&a ... a+PS2+Disc

Second page of google search to be exact this is one program you can use you will need a bootdisk or a modchip to make the games work though

Any software that is capabale of doing a disk copy of a cd and dvd will backup a ps2 game by just following the disk copy instructions (nero, easy cd\dvd creator, alcohol 120%, disk juggler, dvd decrypter....ect ect)

Also any dvd movie you backup will work in just about any dvd player just as long as it can read the disk (The PS2 is also considered a dvd player)

You could search this forum for 'ps2' we have a lot of topics on it.

ps2 games are not copy protected outside of the machine, just put in a dvd writer & you can back it up. Use -r media & no more than 2x.
