Ok well I really dont wanna argue this topic...
I use Mytheatre to record my DVB streams off Bell Expressvu, and when I record (capture) the PPV (pay per view) events I get them in the following information: ---->
MPEG-2 file
------------
704*480 resolution
29.976042 framerate
48000 khrtz Audio
3150 kb/sec Bitrate (varies from event)
Thats what my DVB MPEG file is...and all those specs are DVD Compatible. Some channels I agree are 480*480 but mostly are 704*480. And since the ppv events always end under the 4.37 gig margin, i just aiuthor it and it works.
I use TMPGEnc DVD Author for authoring my mpeg files. And yes I agree it does not load on authoring programs, but that only happends when I edit it. For example... If i were to cap something and after it was done I needed to delete the first 20 seconds of the video because its from a previous show, i prob trim the first few seconds to make it look really nice, but once modified, and re-saved, the mpeg file somehow becomes un-usable. So my solution to that was from my previous comment, use Project X to do it.
Usually I need to modifiy all my caps because I cannot ever get a perfect beggning to end segment. So you load the mpeg file in MPEG2CUT, slice it, resave it, then load it in project x to demux video and audio. And it should work... This process took me over 14 demuxing programs to figure this out, its the only one that works flawlessly with DVB mpegs. And yes its a secret lol.

Most common DVB these days is 480x480 and 544x480. Some of this depends on your provider, your location, etc. Even then, DVB structure is not the same as MPEG-2 for DVD. Some are not even MP@ML. And many have GOP length too long.

Well im talkin bout DVB-S, and when ur dealing with OTA DVB doesnt really matter what location your at, BELL is picked up anywhere in north america.  ... and the GOP is too long, you just ignore it when it tells you on TMPGEnc DVD Author, it works for me all the time

Bell is a DVB stream, so im "legally" getting the DVB stream off my DVB card...

Isn't BELL the encrypted Canadian DVB satellite service?
And encryption equals an inability to download?

Huh? Bell has been then brother of DISH for as long as I've known about satellite tv, and it's always been using NAGRA encryption on ALL signals. It even says so on lyng-sat sites.

heheh, well than im using some sort of software to bypass the stream, whats the big deal anyways wether its "legal" or not. Heheheh

I was hoping to hear about some new service, or some new hardware ... something to suggest the DVB community in North America has finally gotten with the program. I've not been watching it for several months now.
