Hi,
I have a dual Pentium II, 333 Mhz each processor that I am thinking about making into a dedicated capturing/authoring computer. I am wondering if I upgrade the memory to either 256 MB or 512 MB I think it will be fast enough to capture using Linux and Linux software but will it be fast enough to do authoring/editing? I am hoping to resurrect my Iomega Buzz card - a SCSI card that, IMHO was well ahead of it's time in quality but did not do very well because you needed a 7200 rpm hard drive to make it work well - this was 5 years ago. Would 256 MB be adequate or is 512 MB going to be needed? 512 MB is the max... I would appreciate any insights you have.

I think you'll want more horsepower than that. Remember that dual-CPU machines don't have double the processing power of the same single CPU. It works out to the square root of two times the single, or roughly 1.4 times the single, so the equivalent is something like a single 450 MHz P2.
That's right at the minimum suggested power for video capture for many capture cards. And if you tried any video editing you'd need a calendar instead of a clock to time transcoding or framerate conversion
