There is an extensive review up at Anandtech comparing MythTV with MCE. It is a two part review. It is a couple of months old. I wonder if any of you have tried a similair setup. The goal was to have a TIVO like setup for around $500. I got scared away by all the RPM, YAST, dependancy stuff. Someday I may try Linux again, but ti still seems like it is difficult to get all the stuff to work.

I finally got MythTV working with my Hauppauge WinTV PVR350 mpeg2 capture card. I followed Jarod Wilsons Fedora2 How-To:

I followed it exactly and had no major issues. Yes, I'm a fairly experienced linux user but it should be straight forward enough for a noobie to do.

So far, I can record and play shows, rip CD's, rip DVD's, check my weather, RSS news feeds, browse web sites. I can also access my system remotely (via the web) to schedule and delete shows. I'm now in the process of editing a show and burning it to DVD following this guide:
http://www.mythtv.org/docs/mythtv-HOWTO-21.html#ss21.19

After getting DVD burning down I'd like to try to get the game emulator working as well. I'm seriously considering building a dedicated mythbox using a mini-atx motherboard. MythTV might be a little difficult to get working but once you do it simply rocks. It's that good.
