filter for grainy video

is there any special applications, or filters that will clean up grainy video that is usually produced by low light settings and using a low light mode on the camera.

If you'll be converting to DivX at all, the pre-processing source will clear grain up but at the cost of smoothing all the details out.

VirtualDub has a temporal smoother filter that you could use to remove grain, with the same sort of effects that the pre-processing has in DivX.

In that case, if you're using TMPGEnc, the noise reduction filter should do the trick.
