I vote for Eddie Murphy. Other than Shrek he's had nothing recently.

were is the check mark for "all of the above" ?

80% were never funny to begin with and the rest i wouldn't put in a A list at the moment ... except for maybe bill m.

Eddie Murphy has a long dry spell as you stated ..

Bill Murray and Eddie Murphay used to have some good movies. Ghost Busters, 48 hours.

I think all of the others just suck. Adam Sandler, Tom Green, and Dana Carvey have never been funny. Maybe if I had a mentality of a 6 year old, could be different. (Which is about how old I was when I saw 48 HRS and Ghost Busters biggrin.gif )

Dana Carvey was hilarious! But Master of Disguise was horrible.

What movies was Dana in? I only remember him from SNL, Little Nicky and Waynes World.

I absolutely hate most comedy movies as it is. A good comedy to me is Second Hand Lions, I laughed my ass off in that. Anger Management lasted 20 minutes before I hit the eject button. So you can see I have a different take on what is and isn't funny.

If you'd listed Dennis Miller, he'd have beaten Murphy. He was always Mr. Smug Pop Culture Reference, but he's been worse since he's become a Rush Limbaugh wannabe. He has to PAY to get audiences for his lame show (the want ads have been found in newspapers). Not even Murphy sunk that low.

But given the choices, I left it at "everyone who left SNL to do movies." This should really be the winning choice. Think about it. Chevy Chase? John Belushi? Mike Meyers? All those comedies that sat in your stomach like unchewed pizza crust?

Had to vote for Dana Carvey, he was once funny but nothing receintly. IMO, many on your list were never really funny...

Eddie Murphy's recent stuff is good for the kids, just not so appealing for the adults. He seems to be trying to do what Steve Martin has done with his career...

I would say Robin Williams is one who used to be great and just isn't funny anymore. Now it's just the same routine all the time, a series of silly voices.

But most of the ones in the list were never funny.

Holy shit! I hope that I don't get the blame for this train wreck! When I suggested a "Who is your favorite comedian?" poll, I was thinking stand up! Comedy movies are a differnt game. I do agree though that most of these movies were not all that great to start with. But if you take Dangerfeild, before Easy money you would only see him five minutes at a time or so. A two hour movie with him for the first time was rib splitting to me. But with time the movies get dated and don't hold up as well as a stand up show. I think this may be true with some of the others on the list as well, but some were never funny at all. Once again don't blame me! I didn't twist this around like this!

That is 100% true. I'd much rather watch RAW instead of Dr. Dolittle any day.

George Carlin, Cheech and Chong, Sam Kinison, Gallagher, and Larry the Cable Guy. That's funny I don't care who you are.

Cheech and Chong movies are pretty bland, but the stand-up is funny as hell.

Up In Smoke was good - the scene with the Ajax Lady is classic laugh.gif

all their movies following were very lame though.

At least they knew when to call it quits.

Their best stuff remains their comedy albums from the early '70s - that's the stuff you'll find mp3s and WAVs of online.

I'll give Bill Murray the Baby Ruth scene in Caddyshack, but Rodney Dangerfield and Ted Knight made the rest of the movie work.

Richard Pryor used to be funny in the Which Way Is Up days of the '70s...then it's been all down hill ever since.

I agree that the ones listed really were never all that funny to begin with, but I haven't seen most of their standup work.

That's crazy talk, "Delirious" has and always will be Eddie Murphy's funniest material. He repeated atleast 25% percent of the stuff in Delirious during Raw. Raw was just plain sad, probably the start of his downfall. I personally never liked anything he did on SNL and the Beverly Hills Cops series were bearable; nah scratch that BHC1 was the only bearable one. BHC2 and 3 were just awful. If I could erase from my memory all of those family movies he's doing now and probably will be for a while my mind would be at ease; but sadly dolittle and nutty cr@p still exist somewhere in my empty head.

EDIT:

Yeah I'd rather watch RAW or Delirious over anything else he has done past, present, and future.

Tom Green, a comedian squarely aimed at people who thinking nose picking and farting is the pinnacle of good humour.

Adam Sandler, for people who need their comedy SHOUTED at them.

Eddie Murphy, the Bill Cosby of the 21st century. (not intended as a compliment)

I would have voted for all 3. But in the end, Tom Green won my vote.

i don't know -- he is one of the few that ever had me in stitches .. and those days of SNL w/ JB and company were still the best by far .... (does anyone still watch snl anymore?)

the fork in the eye -- i guess i go for that type of humour .. he has had some real duds though also ..

SNL, besides watching the guest bands, I've only seen a couple of EPs, some with Eddie, Chevy, the old ones. I think they try too hard to be funny in the newer ones. Besides that, watching Norm Macdonald makes wish I could bitch slap him. Even David Letterman is funnier, and that's not saying much.

Steve Martin, good in the early days, wretched in the 90's, maybe coming back since Cheaper By The Dozen. Pink Panther could be decent when it comes out next year.
