Hi,

My friend told me a very interesting thing: by playing the DVD-R/+R/-RW/+RW disks, he can cause damage for the Sony DVP-S725D player.

No, this is not a joke. His player went wrong a couple of days ago and he called the service to fix it. They fixed it, but he got an advice as well: not to play DVD-R disks because it can cause serious problem for his player. Unfortunately he can not remember what and why.

Can it be possible?
I am not an expert, so if anybody has good explanation for that, I would appreciate it.

He may have seen a note saying this player is not compatible with +R discs as do many DVD stand alone's and rom drives etc these days +RW has the same reflective layer as bought DVDs. Sorry your friend has misunderstood things a bit.

The player probably grinds away in a futile attempt to read the disc, then gives up. If it did that a few hundred times, it could cause damage, but why would you want to do that? redface.gif
