i am after an isp for broadband in the uk, alot of them are £27.99-£30, but some seem to be a bit cheaper without some of the thrills like freedom2surf which is £22.50 a month. does anybody use freedom2surf or got any recommendations for uk broadband isp's?

Can't tell you which is the best because I haven't used them all, but...
...I've been with V21 for exactly a year now, and I'll be continuing with my contract.
And the best part?
It's £19.99 a month.
Will

is it right that v21 dont give any email addresses? only id like to have an isp email address since using stuff like hotmail or yahoo seems to me to be over run by spammers. so did you get a something@v21.co.uk email address?

I have used F2s for 18 months now and can whole heartdly recomend them...
Would hardly call it a no frills service. Top notch web hosting with all the goodies. Plenty of email addy's, Static Ip, Great customer service...
Also pop over here where i am a mod, we are a users support group for all things F2s related...
You wont regret joining F2s for adsl...

No, it isn't right.
I have six, (wife, mine, ebay, anon, one to my laptop and one to my desktop) but I'm sure there's more you're entitled to if you need them.
I only tend to use them as forwarding though, I tend to use my domain name addresses (will@mydomain.com).
You also get 10mb webspace but I could do with double that
Willl

I have used Pipex broadband for 1.5 years now. £23 some odds a month for 512k access or £28 some odds for a 1 meg connection. Excellent service with no dropped lines and no download limits (getting rarer these days!!)

I am the same I pay 28.99 with pipex for their 1mb service it has only gone down once and as you say excellent service.
Loads of my colleagues who live in and around london rave about bulldog they do a number of packages I think it is £39.99 for 2mb or they do a package which I think is £32.99 which is 2mb after 7 and all weekends and 1/2 mb during the day.

If you are in an area where you can get NTL cable, you can get 600k broadband for £24.99 per month, this is the option I have.
You can have upto 15 email addresses and 55MB of webspace.
Installation is free.
Other packages are
150k for £17.99 per month
1meg for £34.99 per month
Check here for availability in your area

NTL, IMO, are completely fucking useless.
We have the cut in front of our drive where it's been installed, we get shit through our door every six weeks about how great it is yet telephone calls and checking via the web prove 'our area is not yet enabled'.
Bollocks.
Complete wankers.
I'll stick with Sky and V21.

I had the same thing - I phoned and expressed interest and was told the same "area not yet enabled" ! Also I spent a weekend over my mates trying to get his cable modem working only to have NTL finally admit they had turned off his connection.
I've also had another mate upgrade his connection to the 1mb when he complained after 2 months that it didn't seem any quicker they told him he was still on 600 but payin for the 1mb. I vowed never to have anything to do with them after that.

Setting up a ftp site on your computer is easy thanks to the static ip. Get something like bulletproof ftp. Easy to configure and run.
If you are running a router you will need to forward a couple of ports for it to work.
If you are lucky you will be activated early. Kepp checking the connection..

I have to put in a word for onetel who are pretty good. Free modem and activation did it for me (since stopped). They are looking a bit pricey compared to bulldog, but no problems from the service.

I'm with energy80s, with this. I've been a customer of Pipex ever since they dropped ADSL to £24 a couple of years back. No problems whatsoever.
At first the newsgroups were pretty crap, but I have definatly noticed they have improved latley so I'll be cancelling my claranet newgroup account when it comes for renewal.
