I recently purchased a 24" True-Flat RCA TV/VCR/DVD combo unit from Sam's. I really like the unit. It has great picture and sound - especially with the DVD. I do have one gripe, however. The box said that it supported DVD, CD, CD-R, CD-RW, and MP3. With this in mind, I thought that it should be able to read VCD/SVCD's as well since they are on CD-R media. Sure enough, when I got it home and inserted a VCD, the unit replied "Incorrect Disc". After trying several VCD's and SVCD's and upon closer reading the manual, I found one line which states that Video CD's are not supported with this model.
Is it really so hard for a manufacturer to make a DVD player that supports all of the common formats?!? If anyone here knows of a firmware update or possibly a "Service Menu" fix that would allow me to play VCD/SVCD's on this unit, I would appreciate your reply.
Thank You,
Jay
