Can somebody tell me why when I type in ipconfig /all only a black window flashes up and not the window that should???

Also could someone tell me if your default gateway should be the same as
your IP address???

Ipconfig has to be run from a cmd window unlike winipcfg. If run from the run command, it will just close after completing the command
start----run----type cmd, press enter---type ipconfig /all

gateway will be different from your IP address unless you are a router...Then that's a whole different story

192.168.1.100 IP Address
255.255.255.0 Subnet
192.168.1.1-99 and 101-254 can be gateway

Microsoft has a little utility that will give you all that info plus has release/renew buttons at the bottom. Here is the link
