my current chip is a 266 mmx and i have just bought a amd 650,big cartridge type thing,would my heatsync and fan be able to keep the amd stable also i don`t know the make of motherboard so how do iknow if it is able to handle the amd.
2,how do i find hot the teperature my pc is running at?

Not familiar with an AMD 650. You could check the AMD website for info. It sounds like a 'slot A' processor, similar to some of the early Celerons. It's not a high powered processor, so if you have the right heatsink you may be OK. As far as the motherboard goes, usually on the bottom edge, below the PCI slots, the brand and model number is printed. You can do a web search for this and see what you've got. If you have a Intel type motherboard, I doubt that the processor would work, but you can look into it a bit further. As far as temperature, some motherboard bios's can show the temperature. But you do need to find out about the motherboard first.
EDIT: Are you talking about an AMD K6-266? Intel also has the 266 number. Still, try to find the MB model and number.

it is intel pentium 266 mmx,i will do a searc on the motherboard if i can find the make?
