I am interested in the Cyberhome 402 player
If I use the hack and play a PAL disc, will it play on my ntsc tv?

Hello
There is a hack for the Cyberhome CH-DVD 402 that will make it code free. In the video section of the setup screen make sure you select NTSC as your TV type. That way when you play back a PAL DVD video it will be converted to NTSC. The CH-DVD 402 does correct PAL to NTSC conversion without screwing up the aspect ratio.
HOWEVER ...
Please consider getting the Cyberhome CH-DVD 500 model instead. This unit is anywhere from $5.00 to $20.00 more than the CH-DVD 402 (depending on where you buy it from) but the quality is much better. Also the CH-DVD 500 has a trick that will disable ALL forms of copy protection, including MACROVISION and CGMS/A. The CH-DVD 402 has no such tricks. Also the CH-DVD 500 model seems to handle some PAL discs better than the CH-DVD 402
Don't let a savings of a lousy $20.00 cloud your judgement here.

P.S.
Right now the Cyberhome CH-DVD 500 can be bought directly from the Cyberhome website for $79.95 + shipping.

A little more info to why the above answer is no. There's a difference between a PAL (25fps 720x576) and NTSC (30fps 720x480). This has nothing to do with region.
However, most new DVD players can play NTSC or PAL discs. SOME TVs can play either, but (esp those sold in the can not). Check to see if your TV can. If so your set, if not then NO.

Hello
I do so hate to sound rude, especially since I am still fairly new to this particular message forum here at DVDRHELP.com but it does NO ONE any good when someone (in this case user K2 and user Vejita-sama) post information that is not correct.
Obviously the above mentioned users have no clue about the capabilites of the Cyberhome DVD players. Why they would have posted without having such knowledge is beyond me. Especially after my original post. Sorry but it makes no sense what-so-ever.
The truth is the Cyberhome CH-DVD 402 and the Cyberhome CH-DVD 500 both have a built-in PAL to NTSC converter. The quality of the conversion is proper and compared to the other players that do such conversions the picture is at the very top of the list, if not the best there is. At least so far in terms of quality conversion.
Both Cyberhome DVD players mentioned in this thread will perform the conversion right out of the box. However, there is a simple "hack" that can be performed with the supplied remote control to make the units code free. If you should ever have a problem with an RCE type disc you can set the region code to any code you want instead of the "all code"/"region free" mode. Although I should point out that I've never had a problem with RCE on my Cyberhome CH-DVD 500.
Please THINK before attempting to post about a product you have no information about.
Thank you!
