xvid in mencoder, but in ffmpeg?

my xvid works in mencoder, the app, but then when i try it in ffmpegX it doesn't work, and i'd rather use ffmpegX, because then i can change the output video size to 640x352, so yeah, can anyone help me with the ffmpegX prob?

"It doesn't work" is rather vague. Please post more detail, or an error message.

i get this from my terminal:

...

...

so it says its completed, but it doesn't really do anything really

Your mencoder binary version is broken. The stable versions are the ones dated Jan 28, 2003 and Feb 26, 2003. Check for them at http://prdownloads.sf.net/mplayerosx/. There are some old versions of the Mencoder application there. The one of Jan 27 is good. Open the application package with ctrl-click on the app icon, and look inside the Contents / Resources folder. When you find the binary file, move it on your desktop and install it again with Engines installer. You can know the date of your mencoder binary by looking at the beginning of the terminal output.
