Due to the lack of media with the DVD-RAM/DVD-R HD recorders, what are the DVD+R/+RW recorders like? Can you edit commericals etc off of a DVD+R/+RW recorder?

nope, only can erase the entire +RW, thats why I love the Ram's work just like a hard drive.
But keep this in mind APEX is releasing around July a DVD player /40 gig hard disc recorder for $249 list price with DVD+R\+RW recorder also for less than $300 the hard disc recorder is model ADR-1000 the DVD recoder is DRX-9000, they plan to manufacture and sell 1.5 million of the +R DVD recorders, so much for this format so called dead by the -R members.
expect by christmas DVD recorders to be less than $200, lets see what Panasonic, Toshiba, Sony and Yamaha's answer is to this.

Just one problem kid, the + format can not act like a Tvio where you can "pause" live action and pick up on it where you left off. This is where DVD RAM comes in. Of course, ONLY DVD - (that's minus!) recorders also use DVD RAM, which is yet another reason proving the failure of the R+ format!

The DVD standalone recorder is similar to the Panasonic E30/50 in that it has no hard drive. It can do edits in the +RW mode, but that's it. I know a lot of people are looking for units with hard drives in them for advanced editing (I know I am). If you want the specs on Apex's 2003 line go here:

Too bad also that the players don't play any form of DivX. I guess they don't want to P.O. the recording industry in the USA...

Here's a brief summary:
DVD-RAM
Pros:
* Acts like HDD so you it can act a DVR/PVR
* Deleted segments are reclaimed
Cons:
* Not compatible with most DVD players/roms
DVD+RW
Pros:
* Editing features like delete/hide/overwrite segments
* Compatible with most DVD players/roms
Cons:
* Deleted segments are not reclaimed
It's like having a cake.. you can't have one and eat it too.
So there you go. Choose your poison.

Another pro is that DVD-RAM can re-written 100,000 times or more compared to DVD+RW's 1,000 times or more.
Panasonic does currently sell a progessive-scan DVD player that will play DVD-RAM for $99 @ Wal-Mart or less online.

They will simply lower their price also. It would be stupid for them to do it now since there is no competition from Apex at this time. I think Apex is great for people who want to spend as little as possible on a DVD Player, but, to me, I have always seen Apex as the Kia of the DVD Player market. However, I want a Honda, not a Kia
