Sorry if this has been brought up before. I did some checking and I may have missed this thread.

Currently we shoot stuff on MiniDV, edit using Vegas Video, render to Mpeg2 (which takes forever) burn to DVD, then make VHS dubs for students here. The DVD's are great for archiving, but I'm trying get around the rendering step. I know that many DVD recorders have firewire ports, but do any of them offer the control one gets with a DV deck connected via firewire to a computer? I'd like to edit in the computer, then tell it to Print to Tape and have the DVD Recorder make me a master in real time. All the material is taped in house, so copyright isn't an issue. I've heard some won't allow this due to copying issues or what not, but is this true across the board?

thanks
-D
