I have come to the conclusion that I will never burn (mount) a VCD. Here's the logic (please prove me wrong):

Dell installed Easy CD Creator 4.2 on my machine. I understand this is the kiss of death. I cannot use CDRDAO because it will not recognize the drive due to the wrong ASPI driver. I could download the correct driver, however the Adaptec website told me not to since I am running Easy CD 4.2 and I risk the program not working at all. So, I came to the conclusion that I need to have a virtual CD player to "mount" my image onto - Daemon Tools. Daemon website says their program is a sure failure and blue screen of death for EAsy CD 4.2 users. In fact, uninstalling EAsy 4.2 will not remove all drivers that need to be removed. So, maybe I can upgrade to a more powerful Roxio product, the 5x platinum Easy CD. But the reviews are very bad, and I don't want to get deeper with a product which has prevented me from reaching my dreams up until this point.

Did Dell kill my VCD dreams, or am I overlooking something?

(1) Uninstall Easy CD Creator
(2) Install Nero Burning Rom for your general burning needs (uses its own ASPI drivers so it doesn't interfere with anything else)
(3) Download and install ForceASPI -- you can backup your existing Adaptec ASPI layer if you wish before installing the 4.60 version.
(4) Download and install CDRDAO / VCDEasy at your leasure.
(5) You can in addition use Daemon-Tools, CDRWin, and CloneCD without problems.

I have a Dell and it works fine. I agree that it's choice of Easy CD Creator is poor, but remember, it is your PC. Don't be afraid of it! wink.gif

If you are worried about screwing something up, WinXP comes with the great System Restore function. Make a restore point before doing something risky.

Best of luck.

Regards.
