I should know this by now, but realized today that I seem to be more confused than before.

I dl'd a Firefly ep, unrar'ed it and it was a bin/cue file. I extracted the .dat from the bin and then extracted the mpg file from the dat but my sw player, PowerDVD won't play it. I came here, read a few posts, renamed the dat to MPG and voila! it played. In my Irfanview multiuse graphic program. I then extracted an mpg file from another rar set and it also plays in Irfanview. I burned it with Nero to disc and now it won't play in Irfanview, but will in PowerDVD. I'm confused.

Why will the MPG file I dl'd play in one program but not in the same program after I burn it to disc? What changes are made to it in burning it as an SVCD?

I think you should just burn the bin/cue and you'll have a VCD or SVCD that you can play with PowerDVD or a compatible standalone.

I think PowerDVD doesnt recognize the dat alone without the other folders/files generated when a VCD/SVCD is created.

btw, Irfanview is a good proggy, it opens faster than Wincrap Media Player and plays most .avi files if you have the correct codecs.
