ya this happens to me too, kind of annoying. I thought I accidently changed one of my players settings and was too lazy to correct it...

I am not sure what in the world I am doing wrong, but I have followed the directions precisely (using both ifoedit v0.91 and 0.95) and for some reason I am ending up with vob files exactly the same size as the ones I started out with. I have unchecked everything except one vidoe and one audio stream and the process goes through without an error. Yet the result is.. puzzling.
Any ideas?

You're right that is strange ? But remember VOB files are always 1 gig, but is the total som of the vob files excactly the same ?
And secondly if there is no extra sound or subtitles, you can't get it smaller. Maybe if you can give me some more info, i can help you.

If it is US disc... there are maybe only 2 or 1 more subtitle streams and no additional audio stream. It is not like my PAL disk with 4 audio and 16 subtitle streams

Well, not really. I told DVD Decrypter not to split vob files (just have it copy the entire feature movie - by default it selects the main pcg). Anyhow, I did the same in ifoedit, just to avoid a ton of files left and right. Then I only strip the streams I wanted and bam.. still the exact same size.

Just out of curiosity... When your movies overflow to require multiple discs.. Do you just burn multiple discs or do you resample with a lower bitrate?

 Thanks Cavie, I just burn't my first backup and it worked on my pioneer 343...great work , simple guide (my motto: KISS-keep it simple stupid)
I'll try your next way for backing DVR9 to 1DVR.

I followed the instructions exactly and I still can't get my burned copy to play in anything but the drive I burned it in (with PowerDVD). I've tried it in our stand alone Panasonic DVD-CV50 and my husbands HP laptop DVD drive. In the laptop it can't even read any of the files off the drive at all.
As you can probably tell I am EXTREMELY new to this. Any help is greatly appreciated..
If it helps, I am using a Memorex DVD+RW/+R and a DVD+RW Memorex disc

Hi.
I have tried this with a couple of dvds, and I still end up with the same number of vob files, totalling the same size. I cannot get ifoedit91 so I am using ifoedit95. any advice would be appreciated.
DVD I have tried - Hannibal - Multiple languages total file size over 7gb

 if Powerdvd can read it, it should play in a normal standalone player, but that depence on your DVD standalone. Look it up in the list if it wants to play recordibles ?
But it should play on a different computer, if you can give me some more info, like with program do you burn?, is everything in the VIDEO_TS? dir (video_ts.ifo .bup .vob and somthing like vts_1_01.vob ect)
I think you problem is a recording problem, if the disk only wants to play in the drive where it is burned, it looks like the disk isn't closed or you are using rewriteble (some rewritebles don't play so wel on different players).

Ok, there is NO way you can get Hannibal on a DVDr with this method, its simply to big. Use a different method (my second guide,  http://www.vcdhelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=129990 )

small problem with playing dvd-r disc in toshiba sd220e,found this guide great news works every time,plays great on pc,but when i put it into standalone player it will make clicking sounds then play,ok the film will play for abit but then it starts jumping ok i know it got to be something with the player but has anyone else come across this???  plus if i need to reproduce was method should i use?, try :nero : copy dvd thinking it already been decryped processed with info edit but would not have none of it  any ideas??

Finaly !!! I finished "Remember The Titans". It was little bit more complicated (multiangle disk Eng./French movie titles) than this guide, but with help of doom9's guide I was able to make backup copy with just a movie. Basicly this guide works great.

Hi,
As a start I just want to thank you for a great guide !!
Now over to my problem. As a newbie I have used the guide and it works great, BUT ... my question is how the subtitles are working.
I'm saving one subtitle language in the "reproduced" movie and my problem is that I can't verify this on the computer. I have tried WinDVD but the start menus are removed so I can't choose any subtitle language, or ?!
How is this working on a real DVD player ? Is the subtitle language, chosen in the DVD setup, automatically used ?
Finally which sound track is recommended to keep ? Dolby Digital or DTS ?!

Wooody,
To get subtitle in WinDVD, right-click on movie window and select Subtitle and continue with correct language.

Try buring it with Instant CD/DVD. I have 3 DVD players, and when I burn with Nero, my disks will play in my Pioneer DV-250 but not in my Apex player. When burned with Instant CD/DVD, they play in the Apex but NOT in the Pioneer! Still trying to find a way to make them play in both.

Looking at all of the posts over the past couple of months regarding Userguides the moans the groans what programmes were used etc,etc.
I decided as I have a bit of time on my hands I will try them all out, a little time consuming but worth it in the end. All of the DVD9 to 1 DVDr guides are pretty much similar in many ways , the only differance being what programmes are used and if they want just want the main picture or menu's and trailers as well.
So my conclusions, and this is were I have to give credit were credit is due : Well done Cavie your guide is excellent I only fiffer to you when it comes to burning I prefer to use Copy2DVD for that.
