Ulead has released DVD Movie Factory 2 at www.ulead.com

I'm not sure when it was posted. Has anyone tried this out yet? It sound like the menu feature are much better than in v1, which is mostly what I use it for.

I'll be downloading it tonight, to try it out.

Comparison with version 1 is at http://www.ulead.com/dmf/compare2.htm

Looks very good as it takes in VOB and DAT files and lets you really customize menus and have multilayer menus.

Man, reading through all the info on the site; I'm sold! I used the old one and thought it was cool, but could use some improvement. This one seems much more powerful and actually does conversions and a lot of other added features. I don't always pay for software, but this looks worth it for $45!

I'm actually gonna going to buy this one instead of using the demo's all the time.

Danger! Danger!

MF2 does automatic transcoding!

One of the main reasons to use it was that you could bring files in WITHOUT having it automatically re-encode all your hard work. Hopefully, this is a "slectable" feature. In which case fine. Otherwise, probably a step backwards for us.

The trial is not yet available. I guess that we'll have to wait to hear more about it.

Save a whole $10 for an upgrade from ver1. Aren't they generous confused.gif Could have made it at least 50% sad.gif But I'll probably upgrade.

Has some form of DVD-RAM support. I assume it means -RAM from stand alone recorders and cameras, as it doesn't author to DVD-RAM (except Japanese version). Might help all of you with a Panasonic and the .vro problems.

Thats exactly why there's only a $10 discount

Not necessarily. Pioneer records VRO's on DVD-RW.
There is no reason why you can't author a DVD to a RAM disc.

I purchased the upgrade. Looks nice and yes there is a box to check if you do not want to rencode compliant files.

The key issue for me was not menus or VR but rather the ability to work with capture files greater than 4GB.

I just burned one and it worked quite well. A movie captured using ATI AIW Radeon at a bit rate of 8000. After eleiminating commercials still needed to rencode at bitrate of 6000 to fit it on a dvd.

No motion menus?

I got version 1 for free (with $40 MIR), I'll wait the trial and then check the upgrade.

I bought it two days ago, and am a bit fried that the "user" settings mentioned in the manual have been omitted in the retail version I downloaded.

What I am referring to are the capture Mpeg settings. Manual states you can fully customize the USER settings preset (like with VS5 and6). Unfortunately, they don't exist. realmad.gif

So far, it hasn't re-encoded anything of mine, except when I do cuts on imported media. However, it "re-encodes" too fast to be actually re-encoding, I think it is just stepping through the file until it reaches the cut point, then cutting only.

If any one has had any luck with the user setting on capture MPEG panels, please let me know. Customer support has returned none of my emails, and I am a bit discouraged.

Primo, top of the list with the software is the ability to do real-time MPEG capture directly to my DVD burner, with NO intermediate files on the PC... This makes it act VERY much like the set-top DVD recorders. It records everything, then when done, it creates the menu, and updates the disk. VERY cool, if only I could fool with the bitrate and Q-matrix. At this point, you can't edit ANY of the settings. This is a BUG, as the manual states we can do just what I want!

Good luck, still VERY much worth the money.

One last thing.....Menu's have the same inaccurate button numbers...just like DVD Workshop. Push "1" you are likely to get selection "2" on the DVD. I guess they will never get that fixed...

So far, thumbs down on MF2. While it's a slick-looking product, it does NOT replace or offer the functionality of the Video Toolbox that was in the original version. While the ability to work with VOB files is appreciated, I can't edit and convert individual files and clips of files, which is what I used MF1 for primarily. I always considered it the strong point of the program.

Normally, I would assume the new version to be able to do everything the old program does. I've had no response from Ulead, so I'm about ready to ask for my $34.95 back, before my 30 days expires. I'll repurchase, if Ulead restores that functionality.

Whenever I feel like emailing Ulead I just send out an e-mail adressed to myself saying "sorry your email has gone so long with being answered, we are working on the problem now"

Ulead has no email support what so ever. I still havent had a question I asked in June answered. And yet they still send me letters saying they are working on the answer, and will reply soon.

subclubkid,

Would you mind, while you're at it, emailing me on behalf of Roxio?

Dont even get me started on those guys. They also own the Videowave software, and when I was a newbie I had picked the software up...only to put it back down. But it took me a while to get my money back, and they still sent me my rebate, and the free Cd label kit.

I have yet to "buy" software thats worth its cost. wink.gif

Subclubkid,

I had Videowave too, for all of 3 days. It was overpriced crap. I sent it back to Roxio, and it took them 4 months to send me a refund check. Worst thing was they misspelled my name and it was hell convincing the credit union to deposit it into my account.

Why can't someone make a package that does everything we want??? I've tried eight different software packages to do this stuff, and not one of them gets 100% of what I need done.

I was hoping that MF2 might have grown into that killer video app, since the original for me came the closest.

I managed to adjust settings for MPEG profiles. Here's what I did:

Goto windows\all users\application data\ulead systems\ulead dvdmoviefactory\2.0 and look for CapMPTyp.ini file. Make backup of file b4 proceeding further. Open file using Notepad. In it u find all MPEG profiles used. Goto anyone and amend "Allow Modify" value to 1 and save file. Start UDMF2 and u can now adjust amended MPEG profile.

Btw I cannot capture & burn DVD-Video on the fly from TV under Direct-to-Disc. Capture & burn is done sequentially. I'm using -RW and Matrox Marvel G400TV.

What's ur config?

I just tried MF2 and it seems OK, but won't eject my SVCD when finished burning. I have a LG 40x16x10 CDR/RW. If I open Nero, I can eject, but WinXP won't eject either from my computer/properties. Any ideas??? It imported an mpeg file from TMPG OK, no re-encoding.

Did I try tech support? You bet! Called and waited (long distance) for 2 hours, nobody picked up...That was very expensive music I was listening to. Serves me right, I am a real sucker to pay long distance for a 2 hour phone call.

DUDE

Thanks for the info. I am excited to go home and try it out.

Take a look at my profile for specs. Strangely, all functions of this program seem to be operating properly (if I get your fix to work!!!)

Thanks again! tongue.gif [/b]

BTW - I use +RW disk, though that should not make any difference... I have a FW/USB2 version of the Sony writer - and that should make no difference either.

Sure wish that the software's docs weren't so lacking.

When I tried to import a VIDEO_TS folder, I get an "inssuficient disk space" error. I have 15 gigs free where my work folder is.
Anyone tried this?

There is a modify disk option, but I can only select CD/DVD drives. Whats the point? I cant modify anything on a DVD-R or CD-R right? And on -RW can we really go and modify settings after its burn? I was assuming we could modify the VIDEO_TS structure that is on the HD.

well unless they took out the means, VOB does not work in the trial version of MF2, tried VOB's of THX and Dolby digital demos would not work even tried the VOBs on a DVD and would not, or may not be able since they are encrypted on the DVD. main reason I would have wanted this version is for the VOB support so I can leave the 5.1 intacted, at this point its useless and stay with version 1 for now.

Hi,

Thanks jackosh for the info on how to tweak the MPEG
properties. Finally, you can set the settings you want!

Now, some people complain about re-encoding, some
say they don't have that problem.

I've tried it and realized MF2 will re-encode a TMPGEnc
mpeg file (which happens to be XVCD and LARGE, about
970 MB).

Does anyone know how to switch re-encoding off?

Maybe it has to do with TMPGEnc bug now fixed in
the lastest release?

Thanks in advance,

Sunmanking

Hmmm, it seems buffer underruns are still possible with this program even if you check the "enable buffer underrun protection" box. realmad.gif
