When playing a DVDR on a Denon 3000, I get a lot of skipping and artifacting and the occasional hang. Does anyone know if this is down to the authoring method, type of DVDR or player please?

Will changing the brand of DVDR solve this?

I believe this is a problem of the disk it self. Not of your players. I have made some DVD-Rs with my Pioneer DVR-A04 using misc DVD-R disks. Cheap Princo (3,5 Euro) and some other label (5,0 Euro), that I don’t remember right now, did not work on my Toshiba SD210E desktop DVD player and on a Pioneer system. The symptoms were the same as you describe.

Using Datatrax (4,5 Euro) everything works great. I don’t know if you can find this label in your local store. But here is a tip! Datatrax cover writes that is good for data and video. Princo and the other label say only for data.

I hope to find ohmy.gif appropriate disks near you...

theres a number of possibilities, im assuming you mean dvd-r not dvd+r and you checked your player supports this kind of media.

It could be the media yes, but it could also be the way you authored your dvd, make sure its mpeg2 with the correct bitrates with the video and audio bitrate not reaching above 10000kbits/s, try different encoding/authoring and burning software

Its hard to find any information on whether this player supports DVD-R. Anyone who has put an entry in the VCD Help database may simply have not have tried DVD-R.

The player also recognises and plays DVD-Rs but badly smile.gif

I have tried both spruce and maestro for authoring. DVD Decrypter and Nero for burning to no avail...

Video bitrates are below 10000 easily and soundtracks are AC3 5.1.

I don’t believe this is a software problem. If your player plays your DVD-Rs badly then I suggest trying other media.
