Great, I'm so glad someone has finally posted this - just got my 1010 but can't get through to the Tesco helpline to get a CD! Nice one...
But...(there's always a but)...I get a bad crc on 1010.bin - have tried downloading the file three times and used both winzip and winrar to extract with the same result so I don't think its me...
Could you check the file?

Works like a charm! Well recommended to anyone else who hasn't been able to / can't be bothered to contact Tesco...
Simply burn using software that supports cue sheets, insert the disc into the player and start it up. It'll reboot automatically when its done.
Cheers mate!

Excuse my ignorance but does this mean that the 1010 will be able to play vcd's and svcd's burnt to CDr's after this firmware upgrade?
Am I right in thinking the latest 1010's stocked by Tesco no longer play vcd's by default?

VCDs yes - I haven't tried svcd yet, but it should do. In my case my 1010 bought yesterday did not play vcds / svcds out of the box - in fact there was no mention of vcds on the box or packaging (although the dummy box in store did say vcd was supported.)
This firmware also adds a macrovision off feature, although I understand that is disabled by default anyway. I think you can also modify the bank30.rom file (created by the disc image) with a prog called EZPatch to change the startup screen but I'm not sure on that...

Is this firmware also for the 952 and 852 or just the 1010 exclusively?

Hello Oliveshagger, sorry to hassle you but I can't connect to your FTP site, just keep getting a message saying timed-out and asking for another login detail (vcd:vcd not working)!
Thanks.

I need this file but cant ftp it
Can someone email me it to cdrmp3@mail.com please please please
I need it for my brothers dansai 1010 (the one without the vcd and svcd logo)
Just out of interest i thought that it was part of the DVD specification that all DVD players have to be backward compatiable with VCD :/
Usually its cdrs that cause the problem and i think that if the dansai does not play original vcds then they should have to take the DVD logo off lol
Thanks in advance if someone can get me the file

Just tried this on my 1010 - worked perfectly !!
Tried it on my 952 and it seems to have wrecked it. Had to open it up to get the disc out and will now be taking it back to Tescos for a replacement.

Here you go m8:
THIS WILL ONLY WORK ON A DANSAI DVD 1010 DVD PLAYER. DO NOT TRY IN OTHER MACHINES
OTHERWISE IT WILL RENDER YOUR PLAYER A USELESS PILE OF METAL AND PLASTIC!!
PLEASE READ AND FULLY UNDERSTAND THESE INSTRUCTIONS BEFORE USING THEM
This assumes that the 1010 is already setup
1. Open the CD/DVD drawer by pressing the open/close button.
2. Put the CD-Rom in the tray and press the oen/close button.
3. The Screen will display - Disc Loading.
4. The graphics will then break up and the following will be
Displayed:
Bank 30.ROM
Erasing
Writing
5. Following this, The 1010 will shut down.
6. Switch the 1010 off at the mains socket.
7. Wait 10 seconds and turn the mains socket back on.
8. Immediately press the open/close button on the 1010.
9. Take out the CD-Rom
10. Put a VCD or SVCD into the 1010 and press the open/close button
11. If all has gone well, You can now watch VCD and SVCD movies.
ALL UPGRADES ARE DONE AT YOUR OWN RISK!!!!

Use NERO or cdrwin to burn!!!!

Hi mate use nero to burn the cue file, this will burn it onto cd, then put it into machine and use the instructions above.
UJ could also try CDRWIN to burn the cue file or fireburner!!!
