  1. Is there any difference in quality of capturing to if I use firewire vs having a capture card? It seems that even if i capture to dv format (using VideoStudio 7), i get some blockyness, that doesnt appear on the original. Of course, could it be that VS 7 just isn't as good as some other apps for capturing?

    Kthx.

  2. I capture analog sorce video through an ADVC-100 via firewire using Ulead VideoStudio 7 and the results are visually stunning. When I capture through an AverTV card results were blocky and pixlized, which is what prompted my to puchase the ADVC-100. There's no way I would ever go back.

Ive captured with capture cards & now use the DV though firewire method which is streets ahead in quality. If your DV avi looks blocky on playback (in media player) change the following setting Tools->Options->Performance.. slide the DV slider to Large.
Movie only DVD9 to DVDR guide.

It's possible to get slightly better quality from an analog capture card but unlikely, even if you get it working perfectly, you'd never notice the difference between that and DV and it's not very likely you'd ever get analog captures working pefectly.
