Is there special pens for writting on the DVD's. The Verbatims have that super slick coating and the ink just won't stick to it. I've tried many different brands of pens. Can't seem to find one that will work. They work just fine on labeling my other brands ok..

Hey guy,
Use Staedtler Lumocolor #318 for best results. Comes in a variety of colors too!
Sharpie
I might be going against the grain here, but I'm going to say... SHARPIE
Sharpies are great and available in different colors (should one WANT to color his/her own DVD
)
Sharpie.
Staedtler Lumocolor 318 for very fine neat writing. Doesn't smudge! Doesn't come off with a few rubs either.
I think I have an idea for a new poll!

Sharpies are the best for CD's, DVD's and last but not least, autographs on photos and baseball cards
I have to vote for the Staedtler Lumocolor permanent #313 (superfine) and #317 (medium) markers as well. They will write on any smooth surface. The mediums are a bit large for writing on CD's/DVD's, while the superfines are almost too small for my tastes. I have been looking for the Fine size, but they have been out of stock locally for some time.
I recommend keeping them (and the sharpies) away from standard paper though (paper wicks away the ink too fast and the pens will dry). I have to keep my Staedtler's out of sight, to keep them from walking away.
You have to go to a high end office / school supply shop to find Staedtler while the Sharpies can be found anywhere. The Staedtler's cost me about $10 for an 8 pack of colors, while the Sharpies can be found cheaper, they just don't perform as well.

I guess I am old fashion, I use super thin high gloss labels which makes it loook so professional. before asking, YES playback is perfect.
THXkid, What labels?
I've read that you shouldn't use "Magic Markers" and Sharpies because the solvents can eventually soak through the plastic and degrade the dye layer. Believe it or not I'm pretty sure it was in someting as official as a CE mark or US government "computer media archival records storeage guide". With that said, I do have a set of 3M Disk Markers, but have used them fairly interchangeably with .......Duh, Sharpies with no problems with either.
Dixon RediSharp Plus. Like a sharpie, but water based ink.
Never heard of a "Sharpie" !! Is this an American thing?
They are everywhere. I have seen them in Australia, England, Angola everywhere. Look them up on the Web.

Somewhat off-subject but what are the "Inkjet Printable DVD Recordable media" all about. Is there an inkjet that you put the media in and prints a label on the disc directly?
Yes, but the printers are quite expensive ... £200-£300.
Sharpies are alcohol based and the manufacturer says they are safe for vcd/dvd.Originally Posted by sammie"Art is making something out of nothing and selling it." - Frank Zappa
Boy am I glad I could give two shits about how a DVD looks. I'm not hangin' it on the wall or wearing it around my neck. And unlike some freaks, I don't hang them on my rearview mirror. As long as the playback looks professional when i'm watching the movie, that's all I care about. 8)I guess I am old fashion, I use super thin high gloss labels which makes it loook so professional. before asking, YES playback is perfect.
Oh, as far as the markers go, I buy markers that SPECIFICALLY say instant dry DVD/CD markers on the package. I bought a good one from radio shack that i've been using for months. I also bought a "MAXELL" CD/DVD marker from Best Buy that I'll be giving some work too when my Radio Shack DVD marker is completely busted up. One thing I can say I really like is that I can write the title of the movie on the DVD and rub my hand across the DVD a split second after and there is ABSOLUTELY NO SMEARING! Great product and takes a second or so to title each DVD.
I use a Pentel Maxiflo series marker NLF50-A
It's super cool, dry in about a second and hold on wery well on cd-r/dvd-r
Also I use edding marker 8280 UV marker, but you can't see what is written without a UV light
Some of the old Adaptec Ez-Cd Creator kits came with a Staedtler that had been custom silk screened with Adaptec's graphics.
