Home video (digital camcorder) to DVD-R

Hi everyone.

I'm trying to get my home video onto a dvd to send to relatives. I have my video captured, and even edited the way I want it (from MS Movie Maker), but I'm stuck after that. I can get CCE to encode it, but I don't get any sound. CCE crashes when I try to separate out the sound file too.

Are there any guides around that describe taking digital camcorder stuff and putting it on a DVD?

Any help would be appreciated... I'm totally stumped...

I am assuming you are using CCE multipass VBR to encode to MPEG2 since you are trying to make a DVD.
When you do this, CCE splits the video and the sound creating an .mpv and .mva files respectively. These 2 files need to be multiplexed together to create the .mpg file. This can be done using TMPEG multiplex mpeg tool (simple multiplex, MPEG2 program stream).
Once this is done, I create the DVD menu & burn on DVD using DVD workshop.

Also, since you are talking about home video, I am assuming the source is coming from a camcorder so do not forget to check the field order before encoding as you might need to invert it.

Have you tried a type 2 DV avi file? You can capture type 2 DV avi files with DVapp or DVIO. You also need to install a DV codec such as the Panasonic DV codec.

Do you have the same problem with TMPGEnc?

Get a copy of Pinnacle Studio 8, it allows you to complete the project from capture to burn, including some great FX transistions and DVD motion menu's

Studion 8 is fine for editing, adding transitions, etc... but mpeg encoding quality is poor.
