Okay. I decided to start a whole new thread for this topic, since most XVID conversions are to SVCD. At first I was going to convert to SVCD, since the quality was so good, but a few of my friends dvd players don't support mpeg-2 SVCD. When I tested a small part of the video out in my dvd player, I noticed an obvious loss of quality compared to the mpeg-2 sample that I had also checked out. In particular I noticed that I saw alot of pixelation, especially in the high motion parts. I plan on changing the motion search precision to high quality, but I was wondering what else could be done to ensure the best quality. Also, why does it take so long to encode XVID to VCD?

Any suggestions would be appreciated. In the meantime, I am going to carry on after changing some of the settings. Making the sample VCD really helped me out. I decided to do this when experimenting, because I am so tired of wasting disks on shitty conversions.

I wonder should I just convert to SVCD and then use the header trick that I have heard about for so long? This way I could acheive the high quality that this video is worthy of, and at the same time, my friends from the dark ages (who's dvd players don't support SVCD) would be able to check out this flick.

    Peace,

I dont know much about the header trick, but its worth converting a small sample & burning it to a CDR. Then try it in a friends DVD player.
