Those of you who download movies (dvd screeners) and know how the size ratio it the same as a dvd 16:9, then how come when making an mpg2 video from a dvd changes the size? Is there any way to retail the original sizing? The same goes for converting an AVI file that may be widescreen, same issue, the size of the video changes?

  2. Not quite sure what you're asking (or trying to ask) or even saying happens here?!? But let me take a quess/stab at it:

There are two things to keep in mind, display aspect ratio (DAR) and resolution. Take a look at:

    http://www.doom9.org/aspectratios.htm

There are three main DARs out there:

    1:1 PC/computer
    4:3 standard TV
    16:9 movies/HDTV

A 16:9 or 4:3 source will always look like crap on a 1:1 pc if you don't change the DAR.

Then there's resolution. These days pretty much every DVD is at 720x480 and then flagged as 4:3 or 16:9, then your DVD player handles the resizing. You PC can't do that (but your software DVD player can/will).

If I capture a video at 352x480 it will look like crap on my PC. But when authored/burned as a x(S)VCD or DVD look fine on my PC.

Does any of that help sort it out, because I'm still not sure what the question was, sorry

That sort of helps....what i mean is, say ive got a full screen episode of a subtitled anime, what ends up happening is the video seems to stretch on the screen. No distortion occurs, but part of the subtitles get chopped off the bottom, making it difficult to read? Does that make sense? Is there any way to fix that?
