ok,,asking again....some avi's won't play....why??

I tryied king john's list of codes to see if I had missed any...couldn't get to the site...wouldn't let me in...........
again here is what is happing....some not all....avi's will not play or open...all I get is a black screen and no sound and you can see the time running like the movie is playing....some have green in the lower part of the screen....these usually lock up the computer when I try to play them......
I have all the codes that I can think of downloaded(divx3.11,4,5,xvid,nimo code pack)....is there something I'm missing?

You either have a missing codec (I had some divx5 files that would not play properly untill I installed the latest Divx5.0.2 codec from divx.com even though I had a divx5 codec installed) or you have some fake files.

thanks Craig for trying to help,,,,I've uninstall and reinstalled all codes 2 and 3 times in different orders anything I could of.......

and I have searched this and other forums.............

maybe there are a lot of bad files or fakes out there???

anybody else having these problems??
