  2. two things:

#1 get Nero Burning Rom (at least version 5.0).

#2 check to see if your DVD player can play VCDs/SVCDs. There is a list of players that can/cannot somewhere on this site.

If you want to watch your MPEGs/AVIs/ etc.... you'll need an encoder (but you can find the instructions on all that on this site).

NOTE: When installing Nero, you may have to unistall EZ CD.

In a nutshell, that's about it. Everthing else is dependent on what exactly needs to be done.

On the contrary, SVCD cannot be seen on a standalone VCD player. The format (MPG2) is different from VCD (MPG1). Secondly, EZCD cannot burn SVCD.

I have tested this out with actual standalone VCD players and have confirmed it.

I made fabulous SVCDs with TMPGEnc and Nero 5.5. I had to use 704 by 576 picture size for a PAL SVCD though to play it properly on a Pioneer DV-434. The "standard" SVCD template of TMPGEnc works fine though with cheap Chineese players like the Supervision 1100. Strange.
have fun and feel free to ask me any questions.
