Well not sure if they ship to the UK but I know some guys (ok 2) that bought from http://www.dvdcity.com
http://www.techtronics.com
look for the price including the chip fitted
I don't think ordering from the US is an option as we get charged for import tax (about 5-10%) and VAT at 17.5%. Also we use 240v and use Scart sockets.
Techtronics dont have any under £150 as far as I can see?
Haven't I heard bad things about this company?
I need a UK player which is Macro free with a handset hack and plays VCD on CD-R's.
You can get the Cyberhome 512 from W H Smiths at £130. I was lucky and got mine from Richer sounds at £120 !
It works fine for VCD and SVCD
APEX 660 which is a Chinese made player, if you can get your hands on one of these you will be pleased.
They have a Flash Rom inside and you can flash the rom with a CD-R and the upgrades to make the player Macrovison free and region free. It plays......
DVD, CD, CD-R, CD-RW, MP3, VCD, XVCD, SVCD.
Do a little research, because I hear these machines are sold under other names around the world.
I have heard Raite can be macrovison free and region free. no chip change required in it also.

**** Techtronics are in the UK ***
You can also buy the chip and fit it yourself. I have a Sony player from them (Chip fitted) Free delivery anywhere in UK
"Haven't I heard bad things about this company?" Have you ?
Well take a look on the site and read the feedback. I orderd mine and 5 days later it arrived, and that included a week-end. It was cheaper than currys or comet with the chip fitted.
£159

There must be more ?
No VCD on the above, what about this one
Plays DVD-video, VCD, CDR, CD-RW, CD
£152 + VAT

I did know that Techtronics was in the UK, the Vat bit was to the reply above you.
I had a look at the Pioneer and it looks nice and sounds good from reviews I have seen. Not under £150 though but thanks for the info
Some good/Bad things said about Techtronics if you search here

Your right there is a lot of complants, however Im guessing they sell a lot of players, I hope I dont get any problems, but Im sure they will sort them out.
I normally dont buy mailorder, but when you want something like this chip you have no choice. Maybe its better to buy the player locally and fit the chip yourself.
You can buy an eclipse dvd from richer sounds that will allow you to knock the macro off in the menu & it works like a dream!!! they are about £180 pund though thats the problem.
Kev!
