Thread: fps meaning

Thread
  1. how does a digital capture have frames per second? what would the difference between 10fps and 20fps be in a capture? i thought digital video didn't have frames?

and another question regarding quality. does image size necessarily determine quality? or is it just a small part of the whole.

    thanx

Digital capture ?? - lets assume you meant camera
    - For the cheap webcam/cameras 15 fps is the norm. (they are designed that was because of bandwith limitations on usb1.1)
    - For digital 'still' cameras with motion capture a similar problem exists - lack of storage to do full motion
    - For your standard DV camera there are adjustable shutter speeds do not confuse this with frames per second. Digital video will have frames according to its standard - ie PAL = 25 fps

regarding quality - image size doesn't necessarily quality BITRATE does - for the same frame size , say 720*480 a bitrate of 8000 will look better than 1150 (exagerated)

An easy way to prove this - scan a small picture (100 * 100 pixels) at 50 dpi the the same one at 600 dpi. Now enlarge both (you won't need to enlarge the 600 dpi one ) to 400*400 . Notice the pixelization. Less DPI = less bits

i hope this answers your question
