Hi folks
I´ve come along with vcd and it works great. My Next step will be to create a VCD with two languages (German and English). I´ve read that this isn´t possible with VCD so i have to switch to SVCD.
I ripped the VOBs and extracted the languages usin VDub. Encoding with TEMPG is also easy. The question is do i have to encode film and two languagestreams seperately and how do i put the film and the two languages together so that i can switch with my remote?
Thanks al lot

Welcome - to the real world
Hi:
You are right. It's impossible to have 2 audio tracks in VCD. You need SVCD.
For me the easiest way of doing this is:
a) using bbmpeg (it can multiplex 1 video + 2 audio)
b) using DVD2SVCD (you can check 2 audio tracks)
I've tried both myself, and no problem (DVD2SVCD uses bbmpeg for multiplexing)
Both are freeware
and can be dowloaded from doom9.
Hope it helps.
Javier.
Thanx getxo17
I´ll give it a try. I´ve made no good expiriences with SVCD yet. All my attempts ended up in very bad quality so i use to encode in VCD.
Well, te´s try it.

nay it is not so! Encode with dual channel and put Anglo on thecreate a VCD with two languages (German and English). I´ve read that this isn´t possible with VCD so i have to switch to SVCD.
left channel, Gothic on the right. You can select between the
two with your dvd player.
Very good idea
, but...
How can I do that????
I mean: Once I have language1.mp2 and language2.mp2, how can I create themixed one?
getxo17.
Hi guys,
The solution with two channels, each of them for a different language, is precisely what I'll have to do. So, if anyone is awared of some good sw (Cooledit, maybe?), please let us know.
Tnx,
Ian
Hey folks
good idea to use both channels, but what about stereo? I mean i have left for english and right for german, so if i want german sound only my right ears are satisfied!?? (so the left is for my girlfriend :P )
I tried the solution with DVD2SVCD with great results. Just a little bit better than VCD but with two soundtracks on it
. The SVCD in 2pass VBR took me as long to encode as the VCD in CBR. I tried it with the CinemaCrafts Encoder as mentioned on a guide i found.
BUT
the problem is that at the black bar on the bottom there is an big blue box with "CinemaCrafts Encoder" on it
! WHAT the hell is this??? How can i remove it? Is it possible to do this without reencoding? It took me 6 hrs.
Perhaps i should try TMPEG at DVD2SVCD.
best regards

sorry to jumpon your post, but exacly what program can you use to put 2 languages on vcd using the method mentioend above? with the stereo split into 2 mono channels?
Obviously, for VCDs, you can only have ONE stereo audio stream (which implicitly means you can have 2 monon audio channels (L & R).
To make it you will first have to extract the relevant audio streams off the DVD and convert them both to 16 bit mono sampled at 44.1 kHz.
Then, with a good audio editor (e.g., CoolEdit), create a new wave file with language 1 as left and lanugage 2 as right.
Save and encode to MP2. Mux with the video stream.
Most/all stand-alone VCD players will have an "audio selection" type button that switches between L&R, L only, R only and L-R (for karaoke functions). Many DVD players will have a similar function.

Tnx vitualis
So it is right that i only have the right or the left chanel?
I used DVD2SVCD and it works great despite the logo on the buttom. Next i´ll try TMPG.
