  1. Hi,
I have purchased a Toshiba SD-2800 in order to play Kwag's non-standard KVCDs. My Apex 1100W doesn't like 24fps at 352x480. The compatility report on Kwag's site indicates this player works. I had originally picked up a Sony NS-300, but it wouldn't even play 30fps KVCD, then I read about how picky it is with media.

Now I have the Toshiba, and it doesn't work. The sound for a KVCD 352x480 at 24fps is great, but there's no picture. All I get is the "Welcome" screen. I did burn the original KVCD samples to CDRW, got the same, or some image with colored jagged horizontal lines all over the screen.
I am getting the same results with 2 different (cheap) CDRs, Prime Peripherals 80min and Khypermedia 74min.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks,
    Geoff

    Hi Geoff:
Last night a friend asked me for a KVCD to try his new Toshiba SD-2800, and he tried my copy of "Kate & Leopold ", the complete movie on one 352x240 KVCD PLUS format ( Prime Peripherals CD-R ).
The movie played perfectly with no audio/video issues. I'll have to ask him later today if he can drop by and pick a couple of test CD's ( 352x480, 704x480) to try them out. I'll let you know.

Thanks, Kwag. I'm getting replies from you on both your site and here!
It is very strange what is happening. I wonder if this player is defective, though it plays DVD fine. Maybe write speed or something? The Khypermedia are 8x only, so burned at that, the other at 16x. Very strange that I don't get *any* video at all, but audio sounds fine.
May have to go back in and trade back for the Sony NS-300, but then will also have to find media that works, and it won't play my existing 30fps KVCDs

  4. Hey Geoff,
If you can pay a little extra, grab a JVC XV-F80BK. This will play every KVCD format, SVCD's, MP3's and just about anything you throw at it!
    Plus it's a 7 disk changer.
