I personally would'nt buy any usb 1.0 capture device, I don't think usb1.0 has the necessary bandwidth (12mb/s max).

craig, if you were talkinga bout xfer of avi over usb you would be right on.. but 5 MBPS xfer of mpeg 2 is NO PROBLEM. Owning this unit and being unhappy with it, i can tell you that it has nothing to do with xfer speed through the usb bus, it has everything to do with the output not working, the vcd direct capture looking like crap, the tech support being aweful, the software to edit causing a loss of sync in mpeg 2 files, it takes me just as much time if not more now and i get as good or better results with avi cap from my $40 wintv card..for vcd obviously, maybe when i get a dvd burner i will have a different opinion. the dvd cap qual is nice...just not the right piece to make vcd's IMHO.

I was talking about AVI, as I capture using huffy and then convert, as I find I get the best results doing it this way. Transfer rate is generally 13mb/sec and up.

ahh, i see. well in that case this one is definately out as it won't capture avi at all.

For compressed mpeg capturing, USB is fast enough, but not for AVI. Hauppauge sells a USB AVI capture device, but they must compress the AVI a great deal to make it work with USB, so quality would not be that good.

While ADS Instant DVD users are STILL waiting for new software updates that will *fix everything*, Hauppauge has just released a new beta driver for the WinTV PVR USB. ADS could learn a thing or two from Hauppauge!

Barnabas if I call rigth I think ADS Instant DVD also is using the same chip as Hauppauge know as iCompression iTVC12.

No, you recall wrong. Hauppauge uses an IVAC chip, while ADS uses a Stream Machine chip.

If you do decide to buy it make sure you have a full duplex sound card. I bought a brand new Sony computer, and it didn't have a full duplex sound card. If you don't know if you do call tech support and ask them.

As the Hauppauge PVR's capture and compress the audio along with the video with the device itself, I don't think you would have to have a full duplex sound card, but you sure would need one with the ADS Instant DVD which must use your sound card to capture the audio.
