  1. Ok...if you look at my post in the thread earlier about DD-5.1 files, I mentioned that I have a rare DTS disc that I cannot figure out...the story goes...

At the swapmeet, a guy was selling a bunch of theater audio equipment, lots of DTS stuff, processors and DTS cd-rom drives etc.... well he had a few of these discs that were used I guess for trailers..he didn't know anything about any of this stuff...not even what DTS meant !!!

So for $5, I figured "why not" and bought it...well...the files are weird, and the encoded audio files I cannot get to play either in PowerDVD or both of my stand-alone DVD players......here's the 411

    First.....the disc

As you can see....these are the audio cd's that are used for the audio and syncronizing of the film....I also have all 4cd's for Jurrasic Park 1 !!!!!

So...when you put this CD in a computer...this is what you get...

There's only 1 directory which has all the .aud files or DTS audio files in it...and this dts.exe program...

Now...if the dts.exe is run...a DOS window opens and you get this...

    Then this...

Then finally you get this screen....

This is I guess the program that runs the DTS SMPTE code system and cd-rom drives....

So now...if you go into the only directory on the CD where the audio files are at....you get this...

There's 1 txt file, and the rest are the audio files with a .AUD extension....

If you open up the txt file...this is what shows...

This file tells the SMPTE system where the files are located at....

So anyways...that leaves us to the audio files !!!!!

As you can see....theres 4 of them...but there's alot of different trailers on this disc......audio only of course...

I've put them on my server and you can download them just as they came off the cd....

Again....If somebody finds a way to decode these DTS files, then I would bow to you !!!!

I've got a few tricks I'm going to try today to see if I can get them to work...

Here are the files !!! Remember RIGHT CLICK TO SAVE !!!!

    http://www.crescendopro.com/images/vcdhelp/r14t5.aud-83.2mb

    http://www.crescendopro.com/images/vcdhelp/r15t5.aud-4.66mb

    http://www.crescendopro.com/images/vcdhelp/r1t5.aud-134mb

    http://www.crescendopro.com/images/vcdhelp/r2t5.aud-116mb

    Have PHUN !!!

    Jason

P.S. If you are getting slow speed...it's because there's way too many people on the server !!!!

Also...maybe a mod can sticky this please !!! THNXS !

thanks for those links Jason. I will be going to my friends house later and he has DSL so I will wait until then to try to convert them into a useable format. Do you have any other DTS discs to compare the file formats and such between them.

now that I think about it, that disc could be a demo for theater setups. Because DTS was introduced to the theater in 1993 and not to LD a couple years later I think. Even if it is for theater use only, I'm always up for a challenge!

Hey Jason I just thought of something else(yes I have a life outside of this forum). I would guard those Jurassic Park discs with your life. Jurassic Park was the first movie played with DTS surround. I seriously think those discs may be a valuable collectables. try contacting dts www.dtsonline.com and see if they can help you with this.

  5. I've gone to a few DTS forums including DTSTECH (now DTSonline) and have submitted questions only to hear back...

"Those discs work with DTS Equipment only !"

Well...if DTS audio is DTS audio, then there must be a way to extract the files or find a way to play them...

The "Molly" Trailer was a funny one, never really released in theaters...

As for the JP discs, a theater went out of business, and when they were tearing it down, one of the workers (my buddy) found them laying in a small box with a few replacment boards....THE FULL COMPLETE SET !!! of the audio track for JP1 !!!!!

The other DTS disc I have is a factory 1999 5.1 demo disc which is one of the first "High Definition" audio cd's as its recorded in 96/24bit resolution...

This is not the Telarc DTS 5.1 HD sampler, but DTS's own demo that went out to the reps and sales people to show the quality of the audio...

It must be a DVD based disc because it wont even show in any CD player, only DVD based roms can play it....

My wife is using the scanner right now...when she's finnished, I'll post the pics...

Jason, that 1999 DTS sampler looks like one that we could use with no troubles. Any chance you could post the tracks or maybe even a full ISO of that one? Or are you a little short on space?

    Well...2 things...

1st....You have to have a DVD writer because it's all in DVD format...1 song is 400mb in size or so !!!!

2nd....It's copyrights material, not through DTS but the songs are...so that would be a little difficult to do

are you sure it's DVD? It says it is a demo cd and I think I can see the "Compact disc" logo in the black plastic of the case. What is the total data on the disc?

  11. Well...the plastic case is just a generic cd holder....the actual disc though is a DVD-ROM....

Last time I looked...it was around 3.6gb or so....I'm in the field right now so when I get home, I'll check..

3.6GB, yeah that is DVD. I will have to use that program you get of the internet(you know the one that lets you copy DVDs without a DVD burner :P) Yeah I suppose maybe posting the second cd(i mean DVD) wouldn't be a good idea. Thanks for sharing the first one(and a wealth of information about it) with us though. What do you mean by "in the field"? I live in the country so maybe I am taking it too literally 8)

Haven't had any luck yet. If anyone has a receiver close to their PC maybe they could try playing them through the SP/DIF. I would but my receiver is at least 50 feet away. I am still trying to find a way to convert them into a DTS wav file so I can burn it as audio.

i can convert them for you - but to what end ? (for the film - for the trailers i could see it maybe - though of course its only the audio).
anyway i have a DTS-6 player with digital and analog output (and a DTS extended channel convertor also. to play these even on this machine you need a DTS portable generator (which i also have) and know the serial and time code of the clips in question (or the film) ..

Home type (laser disk and dvd) DTS is different than theatre DTS (just like Dolby Digital - its different for home and theatre).

the demo dts 's should play on a pc with windvd with the dts plug in ..

the theatre disks will not play on ANY pc or anything .. there is a specific hardware decoder card for these.

i am in the film bussness .. if you want to get rid of any of these disks - let me know as i collect them.
if you need any more info on dolby digital or DTS or high def encoding or film to dvd or high def - i can help out at that end also (yea, i bet not a lot of demand for that knowlage here) ..

  16. Well...first...this is a challenge to see if people can do this....sure you say you have the hardware to do it...I even have a a complete system except for the decoder..(playback unit, processor) but need a decoder...

This guy had a bunch of stuff....but again...this is a challenge....there's a few programs that can decode DTS time code and the SMPTE code...all that is left to demux is the audio..

I'm getting close myself.....have done most of it....just working on the last part....

This place incase you didn't notice, is where people help each other out, not to brag that he/she can do it, and talk about what else you can do....

    I do High-Def stuff too...and not that crappy 720p shit...the real 1080i stuff...

If you don't believe me...in a few days...I'm posting a 1080i clip that I filmed/edited and compressed in my own little studio.....

Free software and help is a great thing !!!

    Jason

P.S. That's what this forum is all about....helping people out by doing things...not just saying you can !!!!

I don't have the equipment for listen those files, and I don't have the bandwith to download those files (Here internet is very slow.......)

The only thing I can think, is convertion. If you gonna convert those files, gonna be heardable. And also keep them yourself, don't give them away. There are collectibles!

Now: latest DVD2AVI have DTS support. So, if you handle those files as a rip from DVD and with the use of other audio converters like besweet for example, you may made them hearable.
A good audio editor might help also. Latest southforge with plugins for example is well know for handle with the special plug ins DTS.

Anyway, it is really hard to help you without having access to test things to the discs!

The first step is to rip them to your PC, which ain't difficult I believe.
    Then, anything is possible!

the dts-6 is a complete system except for amps and speakers - unless you want to add eq ..

i thought he wanted them decoded is all - which i can do for anyone .. didnt realize it was a challenge .. anyway a hint .. the dts.exe file has nothing to do with decoding ..
there are two different types of DTS tme code .. one used for normal theatre releases and one used in some special dts-6D special venue player (all 6 channels are full range and changeover and lood loop disk work different) ..
the type of dts time code found on the theatre disks you have there are mux'd with audio file and contain the serial and off set contin. w/ the type of sort of smpte time code dts uses (the special venue unit can read straight time code) .

its nice you are doing some high def work .. and no we dont work in 720p either for a long long time .. its all 1080p30 or 1080p48 and/or wavelet compression at higher resolutions ... hours and hours and hours of it .. as i do it (including color and image manipulation) for theatre and special venue releases, along with many commercial dvd film as its my profession in video and audio for over 30 years.. .

if someone doesnt need help - fine .. i thought i might be able to offer/impart a little Knowledge to this fine forum.
