converting .rm/ram to .avi

okay here's my problem
first i retrieved my .rm file and downloaded it, verified that it was fine(like you can download corrupt files or something!?)
then i used tinragui to convert the file.
verified that it was okay. it was fine
now here's where things get fuzzy...
i did all the of the prior steps on a pc running xp with and 800mhz amd-duron with 368 megs of ram.
now i burned the file as a data file first on a cdrw using nero. then, downloaded the file on to a mac, g4 with 700mhz with the same amount of ram.
using divx i tried to convert the file but when i try to even play the file the video is like is fast forward playback times like 8!
what happens is that the entire video (which from what i verify playing fine on the pc) will play the entire clip through in the first five seconds of the actual file stream! ( i know it sounds wierd and i'm pretty new/green to all of this stuff so i hope that i explain it pretty clear all to understand).
the doesn't seem to be corrupt although one of the divx player error code
says otherwise, ( i've tried the doctor on a couple occasions getting different error #'s mostly -48 which divx doesn't explain what it could be and also an error saying the file's corrupt) and on top of that if the file was corrupt why would be able to be streamed into the mac?
but i no idea on how to approach this dilema. i appreciate any responses that are not negative.
and just so you understand exactly what i'm describing.
here's the scenario
files starts to play, video streams to the end, player goes blank screen, sound streams through fine.

also if it helps i've tried to burn the .avi file using nero as a vcd but i don't think that the vcd segment of the program is in stalled because when it's done encoding and it's done burning the file there's nothing on it so i will try that too but i still would love to heat input about this because i prefer to use the mac for alot of applications anywayl.

Don't know how the Mac interprets windows stuff but here goes.....

Have you tried separating the 2 streams of the output file (the one that plays fast). Check their time length to make sure they are equal and then remux them.

Check the video framerate.
To make sure its not a framerate error, load the file in vdub or other app and check the frame/time specs. The framerate and # of frames of time will be provided. Divide the # of frames by the given fps. The result is the length of play time in seconds. If they don't agree then the fps is set wrong.

For example:
For 60 seconds of video at 29.97 fps you would have about 1798 frames.
If you have a lot less frames per minute then the file did not get properly converted but the fps was not adjusted.

At least you will know if the file is complete and properly converted.
