how do i transfer my camcorder movies to pc?

i want to transfer my camcorder movies or vcr tapes to pc in an avi format that would fit a 1-2 hours movie on a 700 MB cd.

what applications can i use to do this?

assuming you have a capture card, you can use many different programs. some of these are virtual dub or mgi video wave but there are tons. www.vcdhelp.com/capture.htm

and the amount of video you can fit on a cd depends on the quality of the movie.
