Divx to VCD Help: VCD plays, but picture is cut on all sides

I am trying to convert a Divx move to MPEG to make a VCD. According to VirtualDub, the Divx movie specifications are resolution of 640x480 at 23.976 fps. I followed the conversion instructions listed under "How to convert VCD with TMPG." I did use the NTSC film setting. Aspect ration was set at 1:1 VGA. The convers According to Windows Media Player, the resulting resolution of the MPEG is 352x240. When I made the VCD with the MPEG and played it on a DVD player, all sides were cut off and the full picture did not appear. The TV used was a standard (not widescreen) TV. The same thing happened with both a Pioneer and Mintek DVD Player. Can anyone help me?

What is the aspect ratio setting on your DVD player? If you are trying to get rid of the wide screen with the dvd player than maybe thats it???
also check some of your settings because in TMPGEnc there are settings that will cut off some of the movie (I think) someone correct me if im wrong...

The DVD player is set to 4:3 letterbox. The source video is not letterboxed. I'm not sure what TMPGEnc settings would cut off the picture that is displayed.[/quote]

Does anyone know what the difference between full screen (keep aspect ratio) and full screen (keep aspect ratio 2) is in TMPGenc? Whats and displayed movie size in full screen suppose to mean? Thanks..

Yeah I have tried both, can't notice any difference.

As far as teh posters original problem
go to the instructions here --> http://www.vcdhelp.com/divxtovcd.htm. Step 3 is what you need. This is where you probabaly chose Full Screen and not Full Screen (Keep aspect ratio)

That is defeinitely the problem. throw that disk out. I don't know any player that can play it and fix the settings. You need to RE ENCODE in TMPGEnc.

After spending several hours sifting through the various threads, I discovered that the problem was a clipping or cropping problem related to the TV's overscan area. So, if anyone else has the same problem, here the solution that I used. I downloaded fitcd to calculate the resolution. I followed the instructions at this site, http://galileo.spaceports.com/~truma...ze/resize.html, except I had to use 3 block TV overscan. I did not manually set any clipping in TMPGEnc. For the Arrange method, I selected center (custom) and entered in the resolution calculated by fitcd. Source video was 1:1 VGA. I encoded a short part and it turned out fine.
