Viewing QT.mov on OSX

I've got a G4 Powerbook. Do I need some sort of a thingie to view QT.mov files?

all u need is simply quicktime!

that is unless its encoded with any special coded, then u will proly need that particular codec, but just try QT first.

I have QuickTime 5.0.2 Pro -
The file is a .mov file and it plays just fine in 9.2.2

In OSX I get a white screen but the sound plays.

I get a message when the file opens saying that I may have trouble viewing the movie and that QT may need a component.

hmmmm... try this, while in QT and the sound is playing like u say, stop it and hit command-i in QT. tell me at least what it says under "Format" in the info box in QT Pro, post it here. then maybe i can help u out, well see what we can do!

The original file was an .avi.
I installed the 3ivx D4 4.0PRI extension into the QT Extensions folder so that I could view it and used DivX Doctor II to convert it to .mov. The sound was all screwed up in .avi and was fine after converting with DivX Doctor.

The 3ivx D4 4.0PRI extension is in the 9.2.2 system folder but not in the OSX system.
Not sure where I should install it in OSX

Here's a snippet from the QT info:

Format: None, Stereo, 44.1kHz, 16 bits
3ivx D4 4.0PRI Decoder, 512x368, Millions
Movie FPS: 23.98

yea, looks like u pretty much solved your own problem already! u just need to install the 3ivx D4 codec in HD/Library/Quicktime folder, and it may require u to reboot to OS9 if it doesnt let u install in X. this will let u play it in OSX. i had a pretty good idea u needed either 3ivx or divx. and as a note, u took a correct approach. many of the files encoded with these codecs like divx and 3ivx, u will need to doctor or fix it in some sort of way so it will play correctly on macintosh. hope that helps.

I found an OSX version of the encoder in the 3ivx folder that I'd downloaded from their site, and all I had to do was drop it into the HD/Library/QuickTime folder, as you said. No reboot necessary.
